Title: how to read an encrypted file
Post by: durfAR on April 25, 2011, 09:21:53 PM
Is there a standard flow chart to read a file on the ecu if is encrypted,

such if nefmoto software doesn't not read it then try....

I would like to not have to pull the ecu out of the car.  Can I get the ECU in boot mode with it in the car, and then disable the encryption. I want to modify the file that I have now since it works well.

I have UNitronics Stage 1 on my 2.7t 6 speed allroad with 551 ecu.
I want to learn to about the files and make small changes,

1. code out rear O2s
2. adjust fuel injectors to 550s or 630s
3. 85mm maf
4 adjust load maps to increase boost

I know that I am new at this but I want to make it as simple as possible, for other to follow.

any help will be appreciated

If the tune in the ECU does not allow reading with the KWP2000 protocol that the NefMoto software uses, then you will need to read the ECU in boot mode.

The easiest way to read the ECU in boot mode is with a Galletto cable from eBay.

You don't have to remove the ECU from the car, but you will most likely have to attach a ground wire to the circuit board of the ECU to trigger boot mode.

As Tony said buy a galletto cable on eBay.
There's a seller in NY that's cheap, free shipping, and I got it in 3 business days in California.

You can boot mode with ECU in car but you will need to remove the cover to access the pin to ground.
