Title: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ThunderWuss on April 06, 2014, 08:57:51 AM Hello. I'm a newish member here. Have been doing a large amount of reading an research. I also bought and read a few of the recommended books on tuning and also bought 2 cables (KKL VAG-COM 409.1, and MPPS v13) I have also downloaded all the software off of the wiki (ecux, me7logger, and of course the nefmoto software) as well as the ftdi drivers. I seem to be having an issue though. I cannot get nefmoto to connect with either one of my cables. Nothing shows up in the drop-down menu even after I hit refresh. I'm also not exactly sure how the loggers work. I guess I'm just quite overwhelmed at this point between not being able to connect with nefmoto and not understanding how the loggers work. I'm apologize for seeming incompetent as I assure you I am not. I just need some guidance to start me off. I have winows 7 64 big OS.
Hello Nefmoto :) Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: Snow Trooper on April 06, 2014, 09:27:36 AM Install your cable drivers, if you dont have them download them from the ftdi site.
I like these ones http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ThunderWuss on April 06, 2014, 09:51:13 AM Does the cable have to be connected to the vehicle in order to find it in the nefmoto software?
Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: Snow Trooper on April 06, 2014, 10:41:39 AM No
Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ThunderWuss on April 06, 2014, 11:04:59 AM I unintalle the FTDI drivers and reinstalled them using the Setup Exe on the Link you gave me. I still do not have anything to choose from in the drop down menu in Nefmoto. When I look in device manager I see USB serial CH-340 (COM3) I tried manually installing the drivers but Windows keeps telling me that I have the most up to date driver already installed. Am I missing Something?
Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ddillenger on April 06, 2014, 11:19:16 AM CH-340 is not FTDI. It is (you guessed it) CH.
Nefmoto uses an FTDI interface. You need a new cable. Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ThunderWuss on April 06, 2014, 11:22:44 AM Will my MPPS cable not work either?
Title: Re: Post by: Jamie on April 06, 2014, 01:49:54 PM You did what I did. The ch will work with clearing vcds only and the MPPS Will work withe the MPPS app. The ch will work with the logging software though. You need to get another cable that users kwp2000
Title: Re: Post by: Jamie on April 06, 2014, 01:54:00 PM I pulled my .bin with MPPS. Not sure about flashing with it
Title: Re: Post by: nyet on April 06, 2014, 01:55:41 PM The ch will work with the logging software though. You mean will not work. The MPPS cable is also not FTDI. Title: Re: Post by: Jamie on April 06, 2014, 02:15:24 PM Nyet. Mine does work with your logger
Title: Re: Post by: ddillenger on April 06, 2014, 02:17:45 PM You mean will not work. The MPPS cable is also not FTDI. He was right. CH cables work with setzi's logger, just not nef. Title: Re: Post by: nyet on April 06, 2014, 02:35:00 PM He was right. CH cables work with setzi's logger, just not nef. I never got my CH cable to work with setzi's logger :/ Then again, my CH cable doesn't seem to work with anything, including things that are supposed to work with CH. Apologies. Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ThunderWuss on April 06, 2014, 04:49:27 PM Just to be sure, will this cable work?

It's 2x the money, but mine works wonderfully. Another benefit is you have the ability to diagnose BMW's, which might come in handy-lol.
Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: ThunderWuss on April 06, 2014, 05:00:47 PM But the ebay page says nothing about having an ftdi chipset, how are you so sure?
Title: Re: Need assistance setting up please Post by: eliotroyano on April 07, 2014, 05:52:18 AM Some VagCom 409 or KKL cables around here uses a cheap chinesse copy of the FTDI IC inside. Try to use this drivers to know if it work.
