Title: 2.7T APR stage one log
Post by: jshepard1507 on April 30, 2014, 11:03:01 AM
Im having trouble with massive ammounts of timing pull and low boost from 4500 up. Im giving up. Hoping someone on here has the knowledge to read my vag com log. 2.7T stage1 93 oct. 3 rd gear and 2nd gear pull log. Notice timing retard up to 9s and boost tapering down to 11 psi specified and actual. ARP wont help Ive tried. Thinking I should just reflach but I have a soldered chip with stock-91-93-100 tunes.

Please don't post excel files. Post original .csvs.

Excel is a worthless format.

That timing is out of control. Looks like that is the race file.

Its been like that since I put the chip in last year. I can run race fuel on 91,93,100, timing all over the place....im stumped. It runs smooth and there is no ping or knocking. Ive heard knock before many times. this car is stock and quiet. What about a sensitive knock sensor..

Does anyone know what should timing look like on the 91 tune. APR wont even tell me, like its top secret. A general idea would help. I know on stock 12 degree is WOT @ 6psi and not timing pull to be seen on vag logs.

If you have an EMCS chip I can confirm you have a 91 octane file for you. I'd need the ecu though.

Thanks but no thanks. Im not going to ship out my ecu to get checked. It was installed by APR in 2013. I shipped out the ecu to there head office and they did it there.

That's your prerogative, but I'd be wear of running that. It's pretty close to the limit for timing pull anyway. A bad tank of fuel and and long hill could very well lead to disaster.

What were the intake air temperatures?

Logging a 2nd gear pull with VCDS is not a good idea, you have a low sampling rate data recorder trying to capture readings from an event that happens very quickly.  3rd gear is better since it gives more time for additional readings to be made, but you really need to use ME7Logger if you want to try diagnosing a short duration event.

Why do you say there is low boost?  When I convert to psi I'm getting just over 12 psi at 6500 rpm.  Do you know where that puts your turbo on the K03 map?  If you were 1 psi higher your compressor wheel would be spinning faster than the maximum speed line on the map - what boost pressure were you thinking you'd get from a K03 at the top end?  For reference, take a look in the Tuned ECU section at the logs from the Notorious VR Stage 2++ that comes with a warning about how aggressive the file is, boost at 6500 is not much greater than what you are reaching - and APR is considered to be a conservative tune.

The timing retard is not outrageous compared to what I've seen on some GIAC Stg1 logs I have, again though it would be helpful to know what type of intake temps you had at the time.

I wouldn't expect APR to help you, this tune has been around for 10 years and I can't recall experiencing, or hearing of anyone else experience, a problem with the way it functions.

Neither, just ran a few of their tunes for a number of years.

Here's a log of my allroad that I just took last night.  APR 91 octane fine

When I first got my car, I had a broken tune from APR.  I had to work with them for a month or two doing logs until we used ME7Logger to prove their file was shit.  They got the ldrxn address wrong I think.  The tune is okay for now.  I'm hoping that a ME7.1.1 ecu comes my way in the near future so I an ditch their tune and do mine myself.

So if any of you are talking about a tune for a 03 allroad or the like, you might want to check with apr and see if they have an update for you.

I think it was last year.

Thats pretty recent for them to have a bad file floating around for an older car... :-[

Yep.  And I had to jump through quite a few hoops to prove it to them.
