Title: A few questions from a beginner
Post by: A6_C5_Allroad on April 05, 2014, 03:57:20 PM
Yes, everyone is working off Bosch code.  People crying about people stealing their tune need to just stop.  When I tune someones car and they pay me for it, that file is now theirs, they can do whatever with it.  If they want to take that file that is tuned extremely tight to their car and spread it to others, I dont care because it wont be perfect on the others and they will end up paying me for one anyway.

That is why I dont lock my files, encrypt them, location swap them, or ever bother to disabling reading over obd which is enough to stop 95% of people.

I look down on tuners that think they are special and need to protect their precious IP, it actually makes me view them as less capable, like they are so worried the one piece of okay work they did wont continue to print them money or something.  If you are a good tuner, people will seek you out and want to pay you for your skills.  Relying on secrets to stay relevant is not an indication of knowledge or skill.

+1   and AMEN!!!

Snow Trooper, If you're looking for another customer, I'm in the market for a tune to match my specific car/needs.  2000 A6, 2.7T, 6 spd. 64,400 miles ( very low mileage ), W/M Injection.  I'd rather give my money to a forum member, who I know cares about the outcome and can tune specifically for the car I drive, than some GENERIC tuner ( GIAC, APR, MTM, etc...ad nauseum ) who has basically three variations of one tune.  ( Like the GIAC tune/s in my Allroad = 91/100/Valet, basically the same for all Allroads, maybe even all A6/C5 2.7Ts ??).
Not withstanding, I understand this forums rules concerning the posting of "Commercial Tunes", as it's more of a legal issue, than one from an ethical standpoint.

Since you have found this place wouldn't you rather learn to do it on your own with help from people like me?

If you would rather pay and be all set, send me a pm.

Truthfully, yes, I'd rather be able to learn to do my own tuning.   I do, however, have a learning disability that I am not ashamed to mention on this forum. I have Dyslexia and makes "starting out" on the basics of tuning, very difficult for me.
For example:  I've just now learned how to locate the MAF parameter "Mflos" [Spell ?], but I have yet to learn how to make the change between Bosch & Hitachi  200 vs. 0 & vice versa.   Dyslexia is a real stumbling block, but I've not given up.   I do shy away somewhat when I ask a question and I get ridiculed, or put down.   I know that most here are very well intentioned and mean no harm when they poke fun.   But it does make asking the next question all the more difficult for fear of more ridicule.

Don't get me wrong; I've learned so much from this site. I I will never give up. But, I feel safer lurking in the backfround and gleaning what knowledge I can without being a PITA by asking questions.

I'm 55 yrs old and I taught myself how to play the guitar when I was around 30, but I cannot seem to learn to read music and I certainly cannot write music using note scale.   I have to use Chord & Tab patterns.
I know this sounds odd to you all because you are all so smart and understanding comes easy to you.

I am really good with the mechanical aspects and I've rebuilt engines, transmissions, etc..., I just have a problem learning the basics of tuning.
I try very much not to be a PITA here because I have so much respect for what you do and I am very grateful that I've learned what I've learned thus far.

That said, it's probably easier for me to pay for a tune, because by the time I learn to write my own tune, the 2.7T ( my favorite engine ) will be obsolete.

Sorry for the long answer!!

Also, you can look at the maps in 3d view. It makes comprehending them quite a bit easier :)

Snow Trooper,    I will post my ECU file here, for you to look at. If I should post in another area, just tell me and I will do so   And thank you for the response.

Thank you, DD, I will try that.   Can looking at MAPS in 3D view be done with Tunerpro?   Actually, I'll try doing that right now and get back to you.
I can't thank you guys enough for reaching out!! :)

Wow. I'm not at all dyslexic and I have a hard enough time keeping track of the crazy map name abbreviations. I can only imagine what you must deal with :(

When you open the map in tunerpro, look above it. There is a little graph icon. Click it :)

Having Dyslexia made for a tough time in school. The panic that would set in when I would be called upon to read a paragraph, was horrible. I learned how to take it in stride and would often laugh along with the other kids who were laughing at me....made me somewhat of the class clown. Back then, there were no remedial classes for we "slow" folk.
When "Books on tape" came along, it was a God-send.
I've come a long way since then, but I still have the damnedest time assimilating or following linear instruction. It's like seeing things backwards and having to learn to "turn them around" so that sense and order can follow.

Anyway, sorry for turning this part of the forum into a lesson in Dyslexic dysfunction.    I really don't mind the struggle. I never get bored and I enjoy learning new things I just have to pace myself  and take the time to undertsand each point before moving on to the next. It's a slow process, but I eventually get there.

I doubt that I'll ever attempt to read the book, "A Tale Of Two cities", but you never know..!!! ;D

Thank you, DD!

Ok, so I found the 3D in the "Tools" > "Advanced> 3D data Viewer.    When I clicked on the 3D data viewer, up popped a window with a 3D graph and an adress of "0000" (in Blue) as if ready to type in a 4 digit #.   So if I want to look at, say, "FTLDIA" in the "Boost PID", theen I would need to know what number (address) to enter in order to see the 3D graph.  Is this correct?

can't thank you enough for the help!!! :)

That's not what you want.

Open the map you want to look at, then above the table there will be a button with lines (a graph). It'll pull up the 3d view.

Sorry about that, DD!  ...got ahead of myself.  I found what you describe.

No need to apologize :P

LMK if you need screenshots to make it easier.

Also, it might be easier if instead of acronyms, you translate the map names for yourself. The names make a surprising amount of sense.

Yes, I definitely agree, acronyms are a nightmare for me!   One quick, but important, question:  I am able to see the "Graph" Icon, which you describe, but it does not illuminate, nor does it engage when I click on it ( Bin File loaded, of course).

Do I need the upgraded version of TunerPro ( I believe it's called TunerPro RT )???  If so, I'll be glad to pay the $39 for it, but I want to be sure that I am not doing something wrong with me "FREE" version before I take the plunge and buy the upgraded version.

I'm amazed by your willingness to help me on this and I am most appreciative. Thank you, DD!

The free version can do it. Which map are you trying to view? Give LDRXN a shot.

Success..!!! ;D  It worked great.  I loaded the "LDRXN" map, as you suggested, and I was able to view in graph format.   I'm using a stage 2, 91 0ct, Bosch MAF,  "M" bin that I found in the tuned file forum ( attached).

It's a slow, but steady process and I am learning.

I can't thank you enough!!

You can also "grab" the datapoints in the graph view and adjust them :P

I'm loving this stuff. I can't thank you enough!!!!   Amazing, all I had to do was ask, go figure    I've pulled my head out of my a$$, so I'm well on my way now, thanks to your help.
