Title: ME7.1 or 7.1.1 on a 20VT?
Post by: edgy on June 04, 2014, 07:42:16 AM
Not a 5 valve 4 cylinder, but a 4 valve 5 cylinder, namely the AAN motor, or a turbocharged 7A.

Aftermarket 60-2 flywheels are available, and most sensors from the engine will work, or 2.7T sensors can be adapted.

But, can the ECU be adapted? Can the ESKONF be modified so ZUE6 and EV6 are turned off? Would we need to dig deeper into the code to alter firing order, or can we simply change axis to reflect the correct ignition angle, etc.?

This is simply out of curiosity, as I don't currently own any 5 cylinders. But, it would be quite the coup if this could work, having a widely available and affordable ECU with OBD2 "compliance" for a 20VT in '96 and newer chassis. Certain standalone platforms may tumble in price or even cease to exist.

Why would you not run an 07K ecu? The 2006 was ME7 and still Infineon, not ST10, and it's already configured for running a 5 cylinder.

Good info to know... Can the standard 07K 2.5L Beetle/Rabbit/Jetta ECU control the N75? Can you forsee any CANBUS issues (missing message from instrument cluster, ABS module communication)?

CW_CAN_R will take care of any CAN-BUS errors. That's the very least of your issues. As for N75 control, probably not, but I'd rather have wideband anyway.

I would say it would be easier to use aftermarket EBC to control boost then to make standalone wideband controller control your fuelling...

Have you gotten anywhere in this? Got a URQ with AAN, one ECU on shelf with a fried Ignition channel,  I have a feeling these ECUs have their numbers up.   Preventative maintenance.  Trying to avoid dishing out $1200 for an aftermarket ECU.  ME7.1 would be nice to reuse as they can be had for $30 or so..  :)
