Title: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 20, 2014, 08:13:56 AM hello everyone
I am trying to read a flash from a 2006 997 c4s with mpps v12. I connect the mpps id the ecu and successfully read but I only extract a 64kb file (I am assuming this is only the maps part of the ecu and not the whole flash) which I will attach. I then open the file using winols and it identifies 71 maps when I attempt to upload a .a2l that I found from a 2005 Carrera S (which has the same motor and I am assuming ecu) it tells me that it recognizes 5790 maps but in the next step tells me 978 couldn't be read for that offset and were deactivated. Now is my problem with my a2l file, my read from the car or something else. please guide me in the right directions I step hour upon hours gather the software and hardware to get to this point and would hate if a stupid file stops me. I will attach the file I read from the car, the a2l I am trying to use and a file that matches that a2l and opens up correctly in winols and has corresponding maps thanks sooo much Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: vdubnation on July 20, 2014, 10:09:06 AM almost positive you gotta do it in bootmode/bench
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: Rick on July 20, 2014, 01:26:43 PM No chance with MPPS.
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 20, 2014, 01:55:22 PM So what tools do you guys recommend nefmoto and kkk cable or galletto 1260
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 20, 2014, 01:57:20 PM Is that why I'm only getting 64 kb read?
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: Rick on July 20, 2014, 01:59:15 PM Neither. Byteshooter is good for these.
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 20, 2014, 02:51:17 PM Any other alternatives to byteshooter. Is that the reason I only got 64kb read from that ecu
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: vdubnation on July 20, 2014, 02:57:09 PM Mpps in bootmode and i think galletto to i cant remeber 100% but i did read it with either because thats all i have

Can anyone please confirm. And I can just ground pin 24 while the ecu is still in the car correct any chances of finding a pic of the correct pin to ground ?! Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: ddillenger on July 20, 2014, 05:21:07 PM Is the A2L right for your file? No. Is it right for your car? Yes. Use it with the hex, and compare to your file. All the maps are there and very similar. You might best start small. A 997 isn't a great starting point for a beginner.
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 20, 2014, 05:28:07 PM hello sir
I am just trying to tune out post cat oxygen sensors but not completely remove them and from what I read that should only be two maps. I literally just got the full 1mb read through boot mode and uploaded it to winols but when I upload that a2l file it says it sees 5670 maps but on the next step I get a popup that it does not recognize 978 maps bc of offset( I am leaving automatic offset). How can I compare my file with the a2l file to tune just the post cat oxygen sensors thanks soo much Title: Re: help with me7.8! It is SIMILAR to your file, but NOT THE SAME. You have to open them both, and look for patterns! The addresses will differ. Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 20, 2014, 06:09:26 PM FINALLLY! Thanks for the straight answer so i will open two winols windows open the hex with the matching a2l and the other window will be my bin and I will compared the two to find the matching maps correct?... One question the guide floating around to delete the rear oxygen sensors applies to this ecu as well correct? http://s4wiki.com/wiki/Tuning#Rear_O2_Sensors
As long as I find the matching maps correct?! Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: Rick on July 21, 2014, 05:01:32 AM MPPS won't boot a Porsche ECU.
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 21, 2014, 05:09:53 AM MPPS won't boot a Porsche ECU. Well I just did yesterday sooooooo please don't continue to try to confuse ppl Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: vdubnation on July 21, 2014, 06:29:26 AM post your bin you read out
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 21, 2014, 07:23:32 AM post your bin you read out Here it is. would the easiest way to compare that matching hex and a2l and my bin be to open it up in winols and use the connect windows option to compare the two files and then use the a2l maps to go find matching ones in my file? Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 21, 2014, 07:25:10 AM or should I just tune from the smaller 64kb file I got through obd but without bootmode so I can then reflash wihout having to do bootmode?!?! reason I ask is because it is a lot quick to read and flash without bootmode hence less of a chance of something going wrong no?
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: vdubnation on July 21, 2014, 08:05:46 AM I would open the hex +a2l you have in 1 project and your 1mb read out in another project and use connect windows to find the maps i have a video posted for reference . After modifying flash the same way you read out.
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 21, 2014, 08:08:07 AM thank you sir really appreciate the help. any tricks to finding only single bit values find big maps is easy its the one value ones that are trouble for me I am trying to disable rear oxygen sensor codes which from what I read on the s4 wiki is only two values
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: vdubnation on July 21, 2014, 08:30:55 AM dont hold me for this but i looked it over for 5 min really quick some of the axis might be wrong but i would double check everything

Post by: italdeisgn on July 21, 2014, 09:04:06 AM One more thing alot of people confuse coding out there rear o2 because of running cat less do they not work or do you have a catless setup ? Thank you sooooo much brother!!! i just open the file you sent me and my 1mb read and the definitions of the maps appear on mine also. I found all the maps that need to be changed according to the wiki except. CWDLSAHK (0x18663) - Code word for probe aging after KAT[42] is it possible the read doesn't contain that map and I don't need to change it? Yes the car has a catless setup. I wish they were just broken haha so much easier to throw a wrench on them and change them hahah... Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on July 21, 2014, 10:41:04 AM for calrification I am not deleting them completely just coding out the dtc
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: coreyj03 on August 18, 2014, 07:46:03 PM do you need readiness set also? if you 00 out the eurobytes it sets readiness. ive done this on a me7.8 before also.
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on August 19, 2014, 03:11:00 PM Yes I do need readiness I don't want to unplug post cat sensors just raise their threshold bc cat cats are not there
Title: Re: help with me7.8! Post by: italdeisgn on August 19, 2014, 03:11:36 PM Sorry for double post but what do you mean by euro bytes? This isn't mention on the s4 wiki
