Title: Help with Reading 24v VR6
Post by: outridinbikes on August 24, 2014, 07:48:06 PM
Hello all, I'm new to the forums and just looking for a little help.

First I'd like to give you all a little background about my project. It is a 2002 VW Jetta with a 24v VR6 in it, I'm in the process of doing a 6 speed swap and need to recode the ECU to not look for the TCU and auto tranny. I have the stock BIN from an ECU with part number which is 022906032CS and comes from the 2003 VR6 GLI, which is a 6 speed stock.

So now onto my problem. I can connect to the ECU via Nefmoto and I can see all of the info about my ECU from the KWP2000 Info tab,  but when i go to the next tab to do the full read to dump the original file to my computer, I can not determine which memory layout to use.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated!

After connecting, lower the baud rate to 38400. If you do it before connecting, it will revert, so make sure before attempting to read, it says 38400. That will give you the best chance of success.

Good luck.

Thanks so much for the help, I was able to read and write to my ECU, and thanks for clarifying that I had to watch the baud rate again, I would never had known that

Now I have a new problem. I downloaded a stock file for a 2003 VR which should be a 6 speed file, and I was able to successfuly flash it, yet when I go into VagCom it still says that it is an auto ECU but shows the manual ECU part number.  My stock ECU number is 022906032BL and I flashed a 022906032CS file to it, shouldn't that work? Is there a way to code my current ECU for a manual tranny or is it easier to get an ECU from a manual car then have it IMMO defeated?

You need to flash a manual file, then update the coding via VCDS. Once you have a manual file on the ecu you are able to change the coding.
