Title: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: mister t on June 17, 2011, 08:37:40 AM Hello all, I was just turned on to this site by one of my local Audi guys and I have to say this is amazing. Hats off to Tony for actually having the will to try and jumpstart something truly outside the box for the Audi/VW community.
I'm not very well acquainted with the ins and outs of the software side of tuning, however I've been dying to learn about it (I'm a bit of a knowledge junkie) and this looks like a phenomenal resource. At present I have a 1.8T 98 Passat with an AEB/ME3.8 ECU. I've been looking around here and while there is quite a bit of info on ME7 applications, I can't seem to fine more than two threads devoted to ME3.8. So a couple of questions if I may. 1) Is it possible to reflash an ME3.8 via the OBD port? From the one thread, it looks as though there are subtypes of ME3.8 (ME3.8.2 and ME3.8.3) with the 3.8.2 being non OBD reflashable and the 3.8.3 being OBD reflashable. I also see that it looks as though you can swap ECU's and reprogram the 3.8.3 ECU to make it compatible with the 3.8.2 ECU car. I'm going to have to have a look at my ECU to find out exactly what type it is. However, in the event that it's 3.8.2, am I correct in my assumption that I can update it to a 3.8.3. If so, are there any more detailed explanations as to how? The thread where I saw (or thought I did) that it could be done was short on details. 2) Is there any software support for reading/reflashing the ME3.8 ECU? 3) If so, are there any links/threads providing some details as to how to go about doing so 4) Has anyone come up with any base files for the ME3.8 ECU? 5) If there aren't any specifics here on the ME3.8, and I have to go about it myself how much of the ME7 info here would be transferable to the ME3.8? Sorry if it seems like I'm trying to get all the answers in one shot. I realize that this site is predominantly a learning resource and not a free handout for tunes. However if I can get my arse pointed in the right direction then I can at least start doing my own research into my 3.8 applications. In fact although it is a ME7 related forum, there are really good info about other ECU families, like M38x/M592 ones. To summarize your questions here are some answers: 1.- From my experience, that is true, most M382 are PLCC44 flash eeprom based ecuĀ“s and are not OBD flashable. Newer M383 29F200 ones can be flashed through OBD port. You can change it, but you will need to clone it completely, serial eeprom and flash eeprom. Of course you need to check for similar family ECU as an update. 2.- MPPS can flash M383/M592 ECUs through OBD port. Just need to energize pin 43 in M383 ECU or pin 13 in OBD2 port (some Audis doesn't have it) to +12V before turn ignition on to allow MPPS enable flash capabilities. 3.- Yes the are some threads. Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: 10101011 on December 05, 2014, 09:19:37 AM The answer is YES the the ecu can be flash through the port. I have done it with Maestro software. Here is the site http://www.eurodyne.ca/shop/audi/stage-3-maestro-tuning-suite-aeb/ . I hope this will help you. I do have the software in my laptop but it needs the eurodyne cable to activate it. I can send you software and let you play with it and see if you could crack it.

Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: TCSTigersClaw on December 08, 2014, 09:09:08 AM AEB m3.8.2 passat cannot be flashed........it has a non flashable chip... 27c1024 IIRC
M3.8.3 can be flashed only not read Maestro is canadian ,over canada AEB was M5.9 or M3.8.3 never M3.8.2 or M3.2 which looks like a giant box.. Then how do exsplain how i flashed a 557P box ?? Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: vwaudiguy on December 08, 2014, 02:22:37 PM Fairly certain ONLY the 557P ecu can be flashed. There are 1-2 other ECU numbers that came with the AEB's that cannot be flashed.
Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: TCSTigersClaw on December 09, 2014, 03:22:13 AM Then how do exsplain how i flashed a 557P box ?? Lol you smite because you didnt like the answer I gave you ? really ? What is wrong with you people you dont appreciate anything. Go figure it out the hard way then. Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: 10101011 on December 09, 2014, 05:38:16 AM Because you were wrong in the anewer about the ecu flashing. Just because the software is from Canada does not mean it will only work on Canadian ECUs. You might want to do more reading about the AEB engine in the USA . You my dear sir have opened mouth and have inserted foot.
Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: 10101011 on December 09, 2014, 08:13:26 AM I know for fact the 557P ecu can be flashed with the posibility of the 558M and the 559C can be flashed as well.

Title: Re: ME 3.8 tuning/reflashing Post by: 10101011 on December 09, 2014, 01:46:31 PM I dont know if you can read it but you can flash it.

Motronics 3.8.2 AEB and AGU also cannot be flashed either. EURO ONLY Motronics 3.8.3 AEB and AGU CAN ONLY be flashed not READ. USA ? I dont know and dont care Motronics 5.9 AEB Can be Flashed ONLY and this is a USA/CANADA only ECU.
