Title: Newbie project questions Post by: Worms on November 12, 2014, 12:38:54 AM Hi Everyone - I'm pretty new to all this in depth stuff in VW's, but have engine swap experience, and work in a medical/technical job. So far, the newest VW I have onwed in an '84 Transporter (Vanagon) :D
I already have a genuine VCDS (Vag-Com / Ross-Tech) Cable and a basic K-Line cable (though no car to use it on yet!!! - I'm going to scan the work van tomorrow) I'm looking to put a Golf MK4 R32 engine and ECU (ME7.1.1 I beleive) into a 1T1 Touran (which is based on the Golf MK5 chassis). I understand the early (at least) MK5 R32 golfs used the same ECU, but there are some software possible differences??? I don't yet know if these differences will affect module compatibility. The MK4 R32 uses a high and low canbus, but I really need to work out if it's all compatible before I spend a load of money on the drivetrain (Which actually costs about the same as the car does! ;D) I'm hoping to find out that they ARE compatible, or at least can be MADE compatible. I'll also have to sort out the immobiliser, as the drivetrain I'd be buying doesn't include the cluster, or full loom - just the engine/6 speed manual trans and loom/ECU for the engine. The 4-motion will be added later most liekly, but the Gen 2 Haldex is pretty easy to integrate (power/CANbus connections, and a correctly coded ABS module). Any help with this would be much appreciated - either answers to my questions, or even additional sources of information I can hunt through!!! Thanks Allan (New Zealand) Title: Re: Newbie project questions Post by: lowvo on November 29, 2014, 10:18:09 AM wow, has this been done before? if so that person would be the best to talk to. if not, you are going to be cutting the path and that is slow progress. good luck!
Title: Re: Newbie project questions Post by: Worms on November 29, 2014, 12:56:35 PM Seemingly, It hasn't been done before, that I can find - Nobody else is mental enough to do it :o
I've actually got a Touran now, and an Audi A3 3.2, which is the dsame running gear as the mk5 R32 golf - the MK4 isn't the same as far as canbus etc goes, so the mk5 platform is the obvious choice. Mechanically, it's a bolt in affair: Engine, transmission, 4 motion all fit with just a few simple mods (lengthen driveshaft to rear, remove spare wheel well etc. I'm picking I'm going to find a few problems as I go - hopefully all are fairly easy to solve! It shouldn't be too much more complicated than a VR6, manual, 4motion conversion on a mk5 Golf ;D |
