Title: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: thelastleroy on December 06, 2014, 05:32:56 AM Is it possible to create a display in the cluster screen for the stock wideband sensor reading? I'd sacrifice the "average speed" tab.
Anyone try something like this before? Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: H2Deetoo on December 08, 2014, 03:42:55 AM I guess that it is possible.
You can't simply add some menuitem, but you can "abuse" the radio (music info) part of your cluster. So you must block the radio canbus cmds, and send your own. This has done by many people before, do some googling and you'll find some examples. You can even buy complete units which will do this for you (show sensor data on your cluster display). I did some searching and all I could turn up were a few companies selling "magic boxes" that get plugged in to the factory cluster harness an the cluster $$$.
Is this setup the only way to accomplish my goal? I was hoping there would be a way to reprogram the cluster software to watch a different input (O2 volts) and display the numbers. Is a hardware interface necessary? Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: nyet on December 09, 2014, 01:35:04 PM Yes, you'll have to build a box for it..
However, with the rise of cheap, programmable SOC kits (arduino, raspberry pi etc.) it would actually be a pretty straightforwards DIY project if you know your way around CAN. Title: Re: Post by: thelastleroy on December 09, 2014, 02:48:45 PM Cool. A friend of mine is an engineer and does arduino all the time. I'm going to ask him if he'll help with this idea. If it works, I'll post back the project
Thanks for the info! Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: fknbrkn on December 09, 2014, 03:09:49 PM im using local mfa-box which connects via 3LB wires to the cluster and displays some info on top section like a boost; coolant; speed; IAT etc
also it has a vag-com GUI and can read any engine info by groups like an original vag-com, its not hard to check group 31 for current lambda i believe you can find something like this in US (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t6fsgrTl3sY/UwJqIrN-vOI/AAAAAAAABZY/522xLeMbrSI/w958-h540-no/IMAG0291.jpg) (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4t6Pzbu3cq4/U5N93Wd3mHI/AAAAAAAADBs/6NTgDsP6Oj0/w958-h540-no/IMAG0608.jpg) Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: fknbrkn on December 09, 2014, 07:12:06 PM nope
only on russian and it wont work on audi. Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: funnix on December 10, 2014, 01:27:02 AM http://www.fis-control.de/
Here is a Link, but the producer stopped his buisness. If you like i can send you the shematic and wiring diagram. Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: adam- on December 10, 2014, 03:08:26 AM The circuit diagram?
Building something like this with Arduino would be cool; I'm curious now too! Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: aef on December 10, 2014, 03:42:57 AM fis control didnt stop his busines, polarfis is another alternative but they all are expensive.
start here: http://secuduino.blogspot.de/ Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: turboat on December 10, 2014, 03:58:37 AM Ahh good find, I was looking for this for a while now http://secuduino.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/fis-seat-leon-cupra-english.html
Just looked at the fis-control site, a mate bought one of his units last month, but it says that as of December 2014 he has stopped selling them. Shame really as they were cool, but too expensive for me! Title: Re: AFR in instrument cluster display? Post by: aef on December 10, 2014, 04:04:16 AM here are two more links but not english...
