Title: Problem reading flash
Post by: rob.mwpropane on June 30, 2011, 07:48:46 PM
Hi all, I finally got around to bench flashing a stock ECU. It connects fine but when I go to read the flash I get

ECU reports that security access is not supported.

????, I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking, thanks in advance!

My ECU will not read / write unless it has sucessfully paired with the cluster i.e. the immobilizer is happy. So I can only do it in the car unless I deactivate the immo.

Also, if you search for "security access is not supported" a few other threads come up, maybe there are other reasons too.

Yeah, I had a hunch that may have been the problem. It can read and cler DTC's fine, but won't read the flash. Thanks for the reply, I will try reading when it's in the car.

My Car is 2003 VW Sharan 1.8T AG5. Yesterday I tried to read my ECU, but it was failed. I upload the log file as attached. Could any body advise how to solve?
I remember that the first time the chip remapping service supplier also occured the same problem. Finally they took out the ECU chip and soldered another chip(29F800BB) back. Than it was strange, the ECU could be readed and wrote from OBD II again.

Untill Tony finds a way to do benchflashes with the KKL leads, this issue will be
not solved. The immobiliser is the problem.

Solution : kwp2000+ interface + special ME7edtion software and it will be read
and writeable in the car, and if it fails, via benchflashcable directly onto the ecu.
No opening up.

Better tip, but slightly more expensive : mpps flasher.

Both tested on multiple ME7.5.x ecu''s.

Cheers,

PvL

what if the immobilizer is disabled, can it be flashed, then immobilizer re-enabled?

not sure where your located but i could flash it for you with a mpps.

I was under the impression that the nefmoto software will not do any bench flashing regardless of immo on/off. This has been the case with me anyway. I thought maybe it was done to keep noobs from going flash crazy... ;D

I have not successfully read out the ECU of my car, VW Sharan 1.8T AG5. However, I have successfully read out three(3) cars with the same model car, VW Sharan 1.8T AG5, which tunned by ABT, MTM, and VW original. I post these files on the forum for reference and checking. I think that NefMoto is OK. The problem is the battery voltage of the car. Because all the three(3) cars with the healthy battery, reading out the ECU is very smooth.
The battery voltage may not good enough for steady state of ECU reading. Thus, the connection to ECU is failed. I would try again when I change a new battery, then report to you.

I've had luck with just clicking 'read entire flash' again and it will pick up from that point.
