Title: Check yo' HARDWARE FOOLS
Post by: ddillenger on February 26, 2015, 08:52:17 PM
This is why I always get a little half log on cars for the first one.

2003 B6A4, original fuel filter. Dotted lines are after replacement. Ignore the slight lean spot at 3k post filter, that's just the base maxing ps_w and going funky. It'll be fixed.

Who's a lucky little guy? The fella that was running an AFR of 17 and still has pistons.

Believe it or not, I have seen much worse.

Woa! Amazed a fuel filter would make it lean out that much, that's scary as hell. Bangs home the need for wideband too

Lol ha ha  ;D...we see a lot of customers each month and half of problems are caused from lack of maintenance.

+1 , I see this very often also - not to mention the bad fuelpumps...

What is a good way to find out if a injector flows too little?
Ideally you would want to check flow on each injector before tuning, but it takes too much time.

I usually looks for misfires and color of the plugs - but that is not very foolproof.

I'm not... At that AFR it's just too lean to do any damage.

Honestly, when we do anything more than a 14 psi tune  on a stock engine, we send the injectors off to have the balanced, ultrasonic cleaned, and the internal filters replaced. We also make sure the breather system is within spec and maintenance is up to date. So basically anything with upgraded maf, or turbo, whatever gets an injector clean, and preferably water injection.

For the cost of an injector service that seems sensible.

DD - do you mind if I share this graph on another forum? It fits well with a discussion I was having about fuel pumps
