Title: MED9.1 Flash w/ MPPS
Post by: vwaudiguy on March 05, 2015, 12:39:11 PM
I'd like to flash over an unknown tune (going back to stock) via OBD using clone MPPS V12/13. I will have BDM capability in the near future, but don't at the moment. Wondering if....

1.) This is possible
2.) Will I have issues with immo because of the tune.

I suppose the immo issues will be the same when I get the BDM stuff up and running, so if you can answer that question, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can write the stock file with MPPS, and you will have immo issues unless you copy over the immo blocks from the tuned file that is currently on your ECU.

You can't write B7's with it. If you have a mk5, you're fine.

As for the immobilizer, MPPS does not right the bootrom, so you can flash a mismatched immo file without affecting anything. You're good.

Car has 0040 revision, and all I can find is 0030 revision. Safe?

I just tested a B7 MED9.1 and Daz is of course correct. No write with MPPS. I was able to read/write a B6 Passat MED9.1 ECU.

The read is 100% identical as a BDM read. Havent changed the immo locations at 6C00 to 6FF0 and wrote back to see if it applies the changes on the Passat ECU.
However Im sure Daz is correct on that again.

Daz, will turning the immo off on B7 ECU's allow write via MPPS?

The real ones work. The clones, not so much.

DD great info but I have two doubts:

You can't write B7's with it. If you have a mk5, you're fine.

Do you have tested another interface that I have seen around there, CMD CAN Flasher V1251? supposedly it is specific for MED9xx and EDC16xx.

As for the immobilizer, MPPS does not right the bootrom, so you can flash a mismatched immo file without affecting anything.

Is this OK if you flash data only and no full read?
