Title: Using different oxygen sensor, possible?
Post by: majorahole on April 17, 2015, 07:26:43 AM
not sure if this is the correct place for this, but i'm assuming to do this i would need to change something in my file.
i have med9 golf mk5 2.0tfsi BPY
i want to use an earlier version sensor, basically to save some money ;D stock sensor is anywhere from $160-$200 locally. this other one is $50 on  amazon  (http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-17014-Oxygen-Sensor-Fitment/dp/B000BZI4ZW/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1429278254&sr=1-2&keywords=bosch+wideband+o2+sensor)
i have a brand new bosch sensor part# 17014
i would like to that in place of the stock part#17270

is this even possible? i would think so, but im not sure exactly what car the sensor was originally meant for, to find a file to look at.
i think its from wideband mk4's, but im not 100% sure.

thanks for any help and feel free to put this thread in the correct place, if this is not it!

Most likely would be LSU4.2 vs LSU4.9, the former being the cheaper sensor.

I'd say it would require some code changes to the O2 controller, as the LSU4.9 O2 uses a current control as a reference instead of "reference air" that the LSU4.2 sensor uses.

I'm sure it's possible, but I don't think it's worth it.

Edit:
Unless the ECU uses a O2 controller ASIC, instead of handling it on the main CPU, in the ASIC case... It's not likely possible.

Checked in Bosch ESI

17014 is LSU-4.21
17270 is LSU-4.9
