Title: My emulator setup confirmed working on a running motor
Post by: nyet on July 29, 2011, 01:23:03 AM
No, it isn't real time, but it beats flashing every revision. We'll see if it is stable enough to run on a dyno soon...

Do you have to turn engine off?

Just curious why all the extra wires, how come you couldn't just strap the emulator on top of the ecu and just plug that ecu directly to the car harness?  Your only trying to emulate the chip correct?

Yea, unfortunately it isn't real time, so you have to shutdown the motor before reloading the EMU.

Also, the extra wires are because the setup is a bit big to fit in stock ECU location. Technically, the breakout extension isn't required. Also,  I wanted to test the cable :)

Hi Nyet,

Ever considered this piece of hardware ? :

Interested in your opinion ;)

Cheers,

Absolutely! It was on my short list of things to try, but I happened to have a lot of this other equipment already around (rom emulator, eeprom pad connector, etc)... so outside of the big honkin vag breakout cable, my setup was mostly "free".

Thanks for letting us know.

B.t.w. which emulator brand/type are you useing on it ?

I guess you also disable the checksum-check in the eeprom to be a bit flexible for
a quick retune ?

i'm thinking of going with the roadrunner-kit, when funds permit...  would be awesome
to do some realtime logging and modifying the map.

Thanks,

PvL

emulator is from promice.com

since its not really real time, i dont disable checksums... i just calculate them before reading them into the emulator.

Does OLS300 do these realtime?

Does OLS300 do these realtime?

On ME7.x ECU OLS300 operates in realtime, but has some issues.
It can sometimes unpredictable crash with changing content of 95040-eeprom.
Then engine stops immediately and emulation can be continuied only after eeprom repair.
At least isn't good idea using this "realtime" on the moving car.
