Post by: k0mpresd on July 09, 2015, 08:56:58 PM
this seems to be a part of a canbus message or ID maybe? im not quite sure. being doing some googling.

does anyone know if this is referring to a set of bytes in the e2p?
i assume it is not in flash.
it is part of coding options and can be changed via a SU level permission user on this me17.8.5 ecu.

just looking for a bit of info as to what it actually is.

edit: i guess its just regular ole soft coding.

C.3    DME Variant Coding (Bosch Engine Control  Modules)

The variant code is a 4-digit hexadecimal (alphanumeric) code. The variant code is stored in the control module and activates the specific market-required functions of the control module. Variant codes can usually be transferred from the old DME to the new DME (providing that old DME has communication capability). The variant code can also be entered manually. The factory scan tool downloads the variant code to the DME control module. When the download is completed, the specific vehicle information for a particular engine group is activated and the DME is ready for use
