Title: replacing a chip within the ECU ME7.1.1
Post by: jdavies2384 on July 17, 2015, 07:19:44 AM
I am a noob so please forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I own an 07 Jetta 2.5 MKV with the Bosch 0261201128 ME7.1.1, part number 07K906032R. I have to check and see if it is immo4 or 4c. I was told that my ECU is dead. I was driving down the road and the car just shot off and would not start. It turns over fine but no fire. Anyway, I can get an exact ECU for $200 on ebay. Is there a chip I can desolder from my ECU and use it in the new ecu to make the immo issue go away? I can't get anyone to look at my current, dead, ECU and am having a hard time believing that I can't just swap a chip out to make a different ecu work in my car. I don't have any programmers, VAG Coms or the like, nor do I know anyone who has one. VW in my area won't even talk to me about it unless I let them run a full diag, $300, and then they only guarantee the fix if the replace the ECU, $3500 total. I love my little Jetta and want to keep it forever. I already have my ECU out and am ready to do what is needed to get it back up and running. Any help would be so very much appreciated. I am good with a solder iron and am the director of IT for my company so I know a little about electronics. I am also a great back-yard mechanic so there is nothing I can't do. I just don't know if it can be as easy as I think it shoul.  :)

Thank you.

JD
