Title: 8L S3 cluster on A3 issues
Post by: stranger_in_distress on July 30, 2015, 09:41:47 AM
I replaced my knackered Jaeger instrument cluster with a S3 one. More info here http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=8439.0title= (http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=8439.0title=) and here http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=8462.0title= (http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=8462.0title=). Everything seems to work ok except the following two issues.

Firstly, the annoying one. I get a low oil level warning(bellow pic), even though the oil level on the dipstick is close to max. The warning goes out if I open the bonnet but after about 100km it comes back on. I replaced the sensor with a new one but the issue remains the same. The issue started when I replaced the cluster and at the same time I did an oil change, but I doubt the oil change had anything to do with it so I'm pretty sure that the cluster is the culprit.

The second issue, I could live with it but it sill pisses me off. I am unable the set the distance to the next service, or at least the remaining distance is shown incorrectly on the FIS.  The distance shown is a random number that changes after 500km to another random number, like in the bellow pic. In VCDS I can set the distance to 8000km for example, but after about 3000km the remaining distance is still 8000km.

The part no. on the instrument cluster is 8L0920932B, but when I bought the cluster it had a 8L0920930B dump and the led for the immo was taken out. Currently the cluster has a 8L0920932B dump from the ICs dump collection found on this forum.

Any idea how I can fix any of this? Should I try it with the 8L0920930B dump that was on it when I bought it?

On Golfs mk4 you can apparently set this via coding:
Quote
You need to Recode cluster .
address 17
07= fourth digit in the coding:

0 = vehicles with fixed service intervals without oil/temp. sender
1 = vehicles with flexible service intervals with oil/temp. sender
2 = vehicles with fixed service intervals with oil/temp. sender
3 = vehicles without service interval display (USA, Canada)
, but on A3s the coding is totally diferent(4th digit is the country). Is there something similar for A3s on one of the adaptation channels?

On Audi's you  can enable/disable the min oil warning on channel 38, but that channel was unavailable on my cluster:
Quote
Adaption channel 38:

With this function the Oil Min warning can be activated and deactivated when the oil level is low. At present this warning is permanently present for all vehicles, however. This function can only be executed following prior input of the access authorisation with "13861".

XXXX0: Oil min detection not activated

XXXX1: Oil Min detection activated

But I tried the 8L0920930B  dump and hopefully it's fixed now.

Now I can enable/disable the "SERVICE" message that appears at startup from channel 02(if I remember correctly)-with the 932B dump I was unable to do that-, but I cannot change the service interval to 8000Km, but I didn't had much time to experiment with various settings(like setting oil quality 1 or 2...). I hadn't done many Kms until now, but I hope the min-oil warning is fixed, too.

I did over 500km with the new dump and the "Min Oil" warning is gone. Also, the radio clock works now:
