Title: ME 7.8.4 Vin number
Post by: walt on September 11, 2015, 09:43:41 AM
Hello again, apologies but I have another noob question.

I read a post where someone mentioned swapping the flash content from another car,
into yours, and this would be ok as long as the eeprom content in your car is left unchanged
(the ecu numbers and car models being the same).

This is what I would like to do, however I found that the flash prom (29F800BB) also
contains the vin number. I'm just wondering if this is normal, and only the vin in the
eeprom counts, or for the ME 7.8.4 a straight flash content swap is just not possible
without modifying the vin number in the flash.

This is the vin number section from the flash I would like to use:

Code:

Strange that the last flash code has multiple vins. I'm guessing that each time an
ecu is modified for a different car (with an official tool?), the new vin number
is tagged on without erasing the old ones?

Anyways, it looks like changing the vin may not be straight forward. Apart from
the final checksum correction, the vin numbers (WP0...) have other information
added around them. Any ideas on this?

Ok, thanks for reading this far. I had one more thing I was wondering about: when
a checksum program is used, why is a comparison needed with the original unmodified
file?

Hi

M7.8.4 is like a M7.1?

Sorry, I don't know.
