Title: Swapped ECU Car Cranks but Does not Start HELP!
Post by: EuroXs4 on September 02, 2011, 02:04:32 PM
So my car is a 2000 audi s4 with a Abox ecu.I swapped in another Abox ecu that I bought with a stage 1 flash. The car cranks but does not start no communicationg to ecu.I tried another spare stock ecu that I have laying around the it does the same exact thing its also a abox.I put my stock ecu back and the car starts right up.Any suggestions??Am I missing something??OR do I have to change something??I check instrument cluster for faults and abs found no faults at all.Suggestions welcome.

check your fuses, specifically the ecu fuses.

Make sure the instrument cluster is coded properly.  It is possible the new boxes you have are M boxes that were converted to A boxes.

I dont think so both ecus have the following part number 8D0 907 551A.Both came out of 2000 s4's.One is bone stock other is a MTM Tune v2.0 Im not sure if that makes a difference.I wasnt able to communicate with either ecu when it was plugged into the car over OBDII plug using a scanner.I dont think it fuses because when I put my original ecu back car starts right up no problem.

Is it possible both ecus are no good???

In vag-com Under instruments/adaptation go to channel 60...  What value is displayed?

Not sure I took the ecu out of the car already. However I can't get Galletto to enable boot mode either on either ecu.But I have a feeling my galletto cable might of taken a crap.I believe its supposed to light up green when initalized and it is not. But I am not sure.It is red all the time. I tried a bluetooth interface from scantool.net That I bought to communicate with the ecu on the bench just to scan it but also no response from ecu.Not sure. Its looking like 2 dead ecus to me.But im hoping thats not the case.Maybe tomorrow I will check. But cluster shouldnt matter I dont think.Since my car is a abox car as well 2000 s4.

So I found out that the galletto cable I have is toast.Thats why I can't communicate with the ecu on the bench I just hope the Ecu's arent toast. Will keep you guys updated. It seems as most of the cables I have do not want to communicate with the nefmoto software.Probably because I am using a vag com 908 clone cable. We'll see.I Did Manage to pull a file From the MTM Tuned Abox Ecu I have.I just have no way of verifying if it is indeed a good read or not.

If you can communicate with your good ECU in the car, but not the other two when in the car, then it is likely the ECUs are not properly booting up. Why they aren't properly booting up could be caused by the ECU being tied to the cluster (maybe?), or the flash memory is corrupt, or the ECUs are fried.

Both ECU's are Aboxes. Both out of 2000 Audi S4 Cars.If flash memory is corrupt is there a way to fix it??I cannot get into boot mode but like I said my galletto cable is toast.I will either have to get another one or try to read with your software.

I think you need to use boot mode to proceed any further in determining if the ECU is fried or the flash memory is corrupt.

I haven't had any problems with the Galletto I purchased off eBay for $25 shipped.

yeah mine went up in smoke 2 days ago.It smells toast.Hopefully the only thing that fried is the galletto and not the ecus.lol

Cheapest easiest way to do:
Buy willem programmer.
Buy PSOP44 adapter for programmer.
Desolder the 29F800 chip.
Read 29F800 chip in programmer using PSOP44 adapter.
