Title: MEx Bench flash cable Post by: elewsader on February 19, 2016, 08:17:06 AM I'm trying to graduate from in-car OBDII port flashing and have purchased ECU harness/female OBD connector to create a bench cable, however when I look at the diagrams, it indicates to power 12 volts to pin 16 of the OBD interface; I guess my only concern would be whether or not that would damage my USB port, still apprehensive as I don't completely understand; I would think the USB port would provide power to the KKL/dumb cable.
I'm just looking for some confirmation or more in depth pictures, I see a lot of harnesses but many of them have already been heat-insulated or braided so I can't necessarily get a visual confirmation on what was done. Thanks to anyone who can shine some light on this for me. Title: Re: MEx Bench flash cable Post by: nyet on February 19, 2016, 11:17:58 AM USB does not provide 12V
Title: Re: MEx Bench flash cable Post by: elewsader on February 19, 2016, 12:07:29 PM correct, I just assumed the 5V would be enough to power the device as it would when connecting over through the OBD access port.
sorry, maybe It's just an irrational worry about over-voltage damage to the few usb ports on my laptop. I know a lot of guys are getting this accomplished, I'm just trying to make sure I can visualize it enough to replicate the process without avoiding unnecessary damage. The few photos I've found have helped, but this is the only part where I'm apprehensive about just connecting 12v power to the USB port, maybe the ELM/ftdi chip in the KKL OBD/USB cable prevents voltage in? If you dont have oem connectors just use female d sub pin connectors Title: Re: MEx Bench flash cable Post by: elewsader on February 19, 2016, 12:53:13 PM -ECU- Pin 1,2 (grnd) Pin 3 (switched pwr) Pin 21, 62 (constant pwr) Pin 4: kline [Me7.1/7.1.1/7.5] -OBD- Pin 4,5 GRND Pin 7 kline Pin 16 pwr Use power supply that gives out 12v Switched pwr on ecu is ignition You do this to simulate the car having keys off or on (handy for certain bench procedures). Thanks, I did see these which made sense and understood that the ECU get its power from 3, 62, and 21 (for immobilizer). It's just the whole 12v back towards USB/laptop that had me uneasy; I probably just need to stop being a bitch and wire up 12v line to pin 16. If you want immo in loop you need cluster wired in with rfid reader coil W-line aswell from ecu-cluster |
