Title: Audi A3 8P cluster 32pin pinout? (experimenting)
Post by: Jim_Coupe on September 09, 2016, 11:27:40 AM
Hi,  im experimenting with a cluster i found on the junkyard.. I have this attached PDF of the "Blue" 32pin connector but where is the 12V+ supply and ground... In other words how do i fire the damn thing up.. I have an idea to use this in an old car and cpntrol signals via an Arduino.. :)

I cannot open the attachment ( using tapatalk )  but I guess you want to know this:

Terminal 31 - ground

Terminal 30 , 15 and s-contact - +12V

Heres the pinout description. i found.. hmm.. not sure if this is correct but i looks very similar to my cluster

Terminal 31 - ground

Terminal 30 , 15 and s-contact - +12V   Did not work :(

In your pinout there is no terminal 15 or scontact - the voltage that shows up afer turning the key

Maybe it starts by can bus?

i am almost sure that it needs a wake up signal from CAN BUS - you will need a gateway and who knows what more....

Yes im on that path too...

There is a Can Signal that needs to be sent out every 100ms to keep it awake.
It can be emulated....

Aha what kind of signal is that, is it a code string?... I have an Arduino where i can send what ever i want if that method works.

If you have a CAN bus analyzer util for your arduino, you can capture the message and see it yourself..

That message would come from the ECU right?  I could use my China Can tool to se what it gives med if i connect that tool to the ECU CAN high and Low.

And not from the MCE?

Also found this i one is not sure of pinout but this dont really 100% apply to this cluster if compared to pics i posted above.

Thanks f1torrents  im trying to send the message via cheap china USB2CAN device.. not sure how reliable it is..  It blinks one time when i press SEND..   om also not sure about the PinOut hmm but I think i have +12 and ground connected correct.. The CAN bus "Twisted Pair" was also easy to find.. but when I apply 12V the cluster blinks one time and the needles starts to move to "0""..

Send the signal every 200ms

i use a canbus for these, just go to a scrapyard and get one from an 8p audi, they wire up to +12v, ground, ign, canH and canL then canH & canL to OBD plug and just connect cluster to power and canbus :)

Friends sorry to take this post from dead, but does the "Bordnetzsteuergerät" or Power Supply Control Module is not needed ??? ???

I'm planning exactly the same - how did it workout? , I will try to power It up using gateway and column control module ( i hope it sends ingnition signal thru CAN )

You will need at least BCM (electric Body Control Module) and Gateway to make it work properly....

You don't need any modules, if you can send the correct canbus messages at the correct intervals.

I dont have any can bus sniffers , can you tell me what is worth buying?

It was cheaper to buy a Borndnetz ( less than 10$ )

So I have it all connected on bench  - Bordnetz , Gateway and cluster - I can communicate with them using VCDS , the Bordnetz sends signal after switching ignition ( 12v on terminal 15 pin in G connector ) , but the clusters only lights up clock and odometer

What did I do wrong? In measuring blocks the can works ok, and no can faults in any module

Which fuel level sender is fuel pump side? I have slight doubt that how well suction jet pump works, so I coded cluster to fwd to read only one level sender to be sure how much fuel is at pump side but does it now read at pump side?

maybe take the fuel gauge sender 2 pin out of the connector and you will be sure

A little OT but quattro fuel gauge works also with one fuel level sensor and can be sure that how much fuel is at the pump side. Side effect of this is that at when the car is resting the tank sides does level themselves and when start driving the fuel gauge start to climb when suctionjet side is pumped to pump side.
