Title: NefMoto Data Logger
Post by: Tony@NefMoto on November 11, 2011, 01:52:26 PM
Version 1.9.0.0 of the NefMoto software has just been posted here:
http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php/topic,1155.0.html

This release now includes the first public release of the NefMoto data logger. The data logger is based around logging variables from the ECU by reading specific memory addresses. This is the same way that setzis ME7Logger and ECUx define how to read variables from the ECU. This relase of the NefMoto software doesn't read the data from the ECU as fast as setzis ME7Logger because it only uses the standard KWP2000 protocol, while setzis logger uses a custom protocol extension to KWP2000. Also the NefMoto software currently displays the values of the variables being read from the ECU, but it does not include any fancy graphs or gauges.

Future improvements coming are:
-Graphs and gauges for displaying data
-Faster data logging

Sorry for the short simple post. I will write more info and post pics when I get a chance.

Is there a help file with a list of data that can be logged, the terminology, etc?
How many 'channels' can be logged at the same time?
Sample rate going down with number of channels logged, or 'groups' like VAGcom?

It looks like "probably yes".
This relase of the NefMoto software doesn't read the data from the ECU as fast as setzis ME7Logger because it only uses the standard KWP2000 protocol

What I've noticed, that on ignition on (engine not running), KKL (blue FTDI vag-com), connected using slow init and engine won't start (starter runs but engine not). Strange. I didn't try to connect while engine was running.

Log from session attached.

No chance to have win XP support?

No chance to have win XP support?

I run a Windows 7 installation within a virtual box that is running inside a WinXP or a Linux machine that forwards the USB. You can do the same and I can assist in setting it up; just PM me.

Hi

I've got an Audi A4 binary that is not working with Setzi's ME7Info program to find the RAM variable addresses.  Does anyone know how to find these addresses in the binary itself using WinOLS or other programs?

Using another binary that does work with the ME7Info I can find a lot of references to those addresses in the code but I'm really looking for a more concentrated table.  Are there other techniques people are using to the addresses?

Thanks - :P

I want to give it a try now, but still hesitant by the 'not for noobies' line.
Got ECUx to work, but every time I mention it here, I get hammered with 'don't bother with ECUx, use NefMoto logger'.
So here I am.

Downloaded the zip (v.1.10), can't even find an install file.
Any install instructions?
I am running Win7 32bit. Have original vagcom and ebay blue cables.

Title: Re: NefMoto Data Logger Group files, Properties files for reflashed 2002 Allroad
Post by: vtraudt on February 22, 2012, 09:39:12 AM
Car is 2002 Allroad 6 spd. Original ECU label: 4Z7 907 551 L
The tune that was flashed in changed lable to: 8D0 907 551 M

a) what group file should I use? I show: M, A, H, RS4 GT, RS4, RS6. Note: No "L" Group.
b) what properties file should I use. For my CAR, listed are:
VAG119   2002   Audi   Allroad NA   2.7T   6-spd   4Z7907551L   S0001
VAG135   2002   Audi   Allroad NA   2.7T   6-spd   4Z7907551L   S0002
b1) Which one is the right one? Where can I find the S000X?

c) Or should I find a properties file that matches my new flashed ECU label? Those are:
VAG120   2001   Audi   S4 NA   2.7T   6-spd Manual   8D0907551M   S0001
VAG120   2001   Audi   S4 NA   2.7T   6-spd Manual   8D0907551M   S0002

since you have s4 m-box software on the car, that's the group you should sue.

You have to create them yourself.  Easiest way is to import an ME7Logger .ecu file.

like one from ecux? because I tried that and it didnt work. I also tried using my bin file loaded on my ecu, which also didnt work. I even tried to read my ecu file using nefmoto... which surprise surprise that didnt work either. I guess what I need is someone to spoon feed me directions on how to create one of these ecu files. I have stezi's me7logger but cant really fugue out how to use that either... if that is what you mean by using me7logger. unless im supposed to use one of the definition files included with his logger, which I also tried and had no luck with... btw I'm using an m box file flashed to an a box ecu. thanks

ME7Logger comes with a utility called ME7Info the reads a defined bin file and produces a *.ecu file containing RAM variables.

You need to use this *.ecu file created by ME7Info with NefMoto Logger or ME7Logger.

How many have got Neflogger to work? Does it only work on some ECUs?

Im still getting the aftermarket security access denied message, I have tried change around some settings with no luck. I dont understand why this happens as my file is tuned stock file and I dont even know how enable security stuff..

I can log just fine with setzi's, never had a single problem, but for some calibration I feel I could save some time if I could read the data live on the screen instead of needing to park the car and open the log to check.

Also would be a million times easier to log specific ranges of like IPW's and WGDC's if I could see them live on the screen where exactly im driving in those ranges. Now it more a guessstimate to try hit specific ranges while logging..

Installed NefMoto on a dedicated (XP) laptop and want to start using the logger.
Before I can start, I read that I need a file that contains the variables I want to log.
I want to start with my 2002 Allroad 2.7T 6 spd manual (was 4Z7 907 551 L, stage 2 flashed now reads: 8D0 907 551 M)/

How can I create the required file, or where can I find it?

setzis logger (me7logger) can create it, I'll shoot you a few links via email.

Seems very stupid question but.......is there any way to open NefMoto log files with Excel or ECUxPlot ?

Today i test this software for first time and i reach 50 samples per sec easy, on same ECU with VCDS in Turbo mode speed is 3.3 samples per sec with 1 read block (4 values) only.

I am still struggling to use the Data Logger.
I want to log the following (2002 Allroad TIP) stock ECU:
4Z7 907 551 M

1) what files/definitions (xml, else) do I need?
2) where can I get them from, and how?

I need to get this done today, so any help would be appreciated.

If someone could post the required files, or email to:

regulatorfix@gmail.com

Thanks a bundle!

Volker-you have to create your own .ecu file based on the bin that's loaded into your ecu. I emailed you a quick "how to".

DD, thanks for all the help. Managed to create the ECU file. Managed to run the first logs (wayy to much junk logged; need to become more disciplined to avoid the huge data mass). Now trying to get ECUxPlot to work (win7-64). Seemed to install ok running the setup as administrator/xp mode. But any csv file i load only shows empty graphs.
Not sure what is wrong.

What is the most efficient way to generate all required files for the various cars/ecus/tunes I am logging, and have them 'at my fingertips' ready for logging. Including the variations of the selected logging variables.

Allroad tip stock
Allroad tip stage 1 (S4 flash)
Allroad 6 spd stock
Allroad 6 spd stage 1 (S4 flashed)
Allroad 6 spd stage 2 (S4 flashed)

Could someone put a short 'how to' together describing the entire logging process with NefMoto logger (list of needed programs, software required to create needed files, list of needed files, creating/saving parameter lists, etc.), and results display (ECUxPlot)?

I am still struggling to get a log done.

You have everything you need already.

If you want, dont bother with the Nef logger, ME7L works just fine.

so how do you or do you even covert the .ecu to an xml then load that into the neflogger?

I figured out what to do.
Neflogger can readand pull the variables from .ecu files.

I got this thing working and it's super simple to use but it seems the log files it produces are not compatable with ECUxPlot which sucks. I ran it @ 30 samples a sec while logging 12 variables without a hickup and I'm prettty sure it will go much faster than that.

So does anyone know of a log analyzer that reads .Log.xml files?

I can't use me7logger it seems for logging so don't bother suggesting that instead of Neflogger.

Thanks,
Shannon

I'm sorry, i should have described the problem more precisely.
So the Logger works more or less fine for me during reading etc.
But when i open the Log-File (which is an xml? ) i only see ASCII (?) Signs instead of decimal Values. Is this how it should be? I tried to convert them in Excel, but it didnt get it managed, always just converts the first sign in a cell...Someone has done this so far or is just everyone using the ME7L :D? Or am i completey wrong and opening is limited to premium license or i am doing it wrong by opening in excel etc. pp? Theres not really a lot of info floating around about the logger, so i can only guess at the moment :/

Bitmasks for your variables seem all to be 0xFFFFFFFF, shouldn't they be 0x0000 like in me7logger .ecu file?

Title: Re: NefMoto Data Logger
Post by: MIL_on on November 04, 2013, 03:13:55 PM
oh yeah, you're right! thanks!
it seems that the direct import of the .ecu-files produces this error...it also deletes all commas/points out of the scaling, so 0.390625 in the .ecu-file gets converted to 390625 in the nefmoto variable def.

little bit handwork after importing needed  ;D

Title: Re: NefMoto Data Logger

Comma/point-thing might be due to Windows localisation settings. This usually is the case in metric-countries with US-made software (or other way round?).

Title: Re: NefMoto Data Logger
Post by: nyet on November 04, 2013, 06:31:34 PM
No. The problem is that the output from the nef logger is xml, not csv.

excel has no clue what xml is, and likely never will.

Maybe someone created xml to csv converter so it would be possible to open nefmoto logger logs in ecuxplot or visuallogger?
