Title: Help turning of Immo
Post by: AFAndrew on December 19, 2016, 08:40:59 PM
Hey guys, So i hope someone can help me. I have a 2001 Audi A6 with the immobilizer on the old cluster and so i purchased a new cluster because the old cluster if so F'd up it wont work. So I need someone to tell me the SKC/ post ECU so I can remove the immobilizer. I will attach the .bin file, thank you.

You don't need the SKC to remove the immo?  I don't understand what you're doing.

I guess he doesn't understand it too ;)

Sorry guys I am extremely new at this I was told to post to this site for help to get my immo turned off and to attach the bin file from the new cluster cause the other one is shot. Would love some help on what exactly I need to do:)

You don't turn the IMMO off with the cluster.  It's done in the ECU.  There are numerous threads covering this; you'll need to read them first and then ask questions. :)

I need the 4 bits of data to be changed in order for the immo to be turned off. I just dont know the addresses of where they are?

He's trying to get car running; old cluster fubar'd during LCD swap, can't read SKC from it. And for whatever reason software he's using won't give it to him via ECU.
Trying to help him and Have 1. ECU file and 2. Replacement cluster file. I don't know the addresses of the SKC in the ECU eeprom. That would be the easiest.
Anyone willing to tell him what the SKC is from his ECU  .bin?

And yes, you can turn immo off at the cluster? Why would you say you can't?
Daz!    :-(

If you get bored today Read this here :

And use NefMoto to get your ECU eeprom /.bin, if you send it to me I'll dig through it and see if I can remember where the SKC is. I haven't had to do it in a few years, but It's there...hopefully it'll come back to me.

The pin is 09379.  IMMO3.

Title: Wont Read ECU

Hey guys so i installed the Flasher software and am trying to get the immo turned off on a new cluster after my last one took a crap. So i hooked it up did all of the steps necessary and when i went to read full flash it starts than stops and says can't read ECU? I am at a loss and need some guidance.

Immo disable is in the ECU eeprom, not the ECU flash.

Hey can you take the immo off or tell me what address need to be changed?

So, his old cluster died during LCD swap. Has replacement and SKC for it.
But is trying to get SKC from ECU. He is having comm issues w/ Nefmoto, it will connect but will not read the flash.
#1 Easiest Solution is anyone kind enough to turn immo off in his .bin?

(Now you need to attach the cluster .bin !!)

#2. Ideally he could get SKC from the ECU, but as of now have no way to read the flash.
SO, unless he can figure out why he can't read the ECU eeprom to get his car running he needs the Immo off at the cluster.

I have been trying to help him, but can't remotely determine why he can't read the ECU file.

ECU flash is not the ECU eeprom

Riiiight.
helpful.
Ok, either way doesn't matter because he has comm errors trying to read it.

So, anyone want to turn Immo off in his .bin?

You're not listening to what people are saying.  You CANNOT turn the IMMO off in the ECU FLASH, NOR THE CLUSTER.  It's done in the ECU EEPROM.

What program do I use to do the ECU EPROM?

I have no idea what you guys are getting at- If you can't turn Immo off via cluster how did I do it 10 years ago when I built a FIS Mk4 Golf cluster using a Euro R32 eeprom and a W8 cluster?
It's been a decade, but it was fairly simple editing 4 bytes of data (after soldering the pathways to avoid CAN signal for gauges).

I'm not here to argue, especially with you guys, seems like you want to get hung up on Erasable Electronic PrOgramming Module vs "Flash" , (which is what Nefmoto specifically calls the file ? e.g 'read full flash').

Anyway, it's way more complicated than it has to be; obviously there's a glitch if he can't get Nefmoto (or anything else) to read the ECU eeprom.

The flash is a seperate device from the eeprom.

You mean he can't get it to read the ECU flash :P

adam- typing mistake it's 09397 ;)  it's immo3 and it's a crypto cluster

Rollerton you can't turn off the immo at cluster , ok maybe you can but it wont turn it off at ECU , maybe you you got rid of the blinking immo light when you had a ECU without immo and wanted to use a euro cluster ( i guess cars in North America till 2000 didnt have the immo?? )

This information is not correct.
It is possible to turn off the immo in the flash.

It's not well documented (if at all), so not many people can do it.  Are you going to explain how to?

There is no point. It is different for every binary, and those who know how to find the offsets to patch, know how to do it regardless.
So this would serve no purpose.

Simplest thing to do is read. Read up on the link Nyet provided. There's tons of great information and software regarding immo read and write and how to turn it off. Easy to follow instructions if you're willing to put in the time. And quite frankly, it's easier than tuning.

But....  That being said, you first need to sort out your connection issue.  Not saying I'm correct, however if nef is saying it can't read.  Maybe it's tuned and has a no read obd protection set in place. Or there's an actual connection problem.

Can you post more info or screen shot of the issue.  Even logs would help.

Prj, is there a way to catch patterns or more like a rule of thumb that would help figure out the offsets to patch?  Just curious (always learning) if there was something that stands out for this type of thing.

You need to disassemble every file and find the points to patch.

And what are you changing?

The same thing as you are doing in the eeprom.

As Prj said I have seen if def in a few files, but its rare i cannot do it but I've seen it done.
I guess since i have a couple examples i could figure it out given enough time.

Hey guys so i am trying to get my 2001 Audi A6 to work. Long story short I swapped the leds in my original cluster, installed it and everything worked fine. Went for a 30 min drive no issues. Got home and turned the car off went inside for 10min and came back out and i noticed the cluster was not turning on when i opened the door and when i put the key in i noticed the immo light was on. I tried turning the car on and it would not turn over just crank. I thought it might be the battery so i bout a new one and nothing same issue. I bought a used cluster that would work with my vehicle. I plugged it in and everything worked on it but still the immo is active. I tried retrieving the skc from the old cluster but it is shot for some reason, it wont be read by vag com or the Nefmoto flasher software. The new cluster reads perfectly to retrieve the SKC from the cluster. And when i try to retrieve the code from the ECU it keeps telling me the ECU cant be found. Any ideas?

How are you trying to pull the EEPROM from the ECU?  Use ME7_95040.

The Nefmoto ECU Flasher. Is that the correct software?

The flash and the EEPROM are two separate components.

Did you read ANY of the stickies regarding command line programs?

I have merged all of your posts into a single thread, since it doesn't seem like you are actually reading any of the responses.
