Title: speedo and tach question
Post by: chain_slappinS4 on February 21, 2017, 04:53:44 PM
hey all,

quick question, i flashed the wrong file to my ecu the other day like a bonehead, i found another ecu same hardware and software version ( 8e0910560a) and copied over the software.. since then, my tach and speedo have been inoperative..

i can connect with vcds and the actuator test runs fine.. the gauges all work, but when starting the car.. nodda  ???..

can flashing the wrong file mess up the cluster like that? i even tried connecting the donor ecu, and still the same issue. tach and speedo do not work, but temp and fuel gauge are working normal.. the other strange thing.. there are no lights in the cluster when running.. blinkers all work outside the car, but nothing on the cluster... could it just be a coincidence that the cluster crapped out?

TIA

-M

Have you checked fuses? :)

Yes... fuses are all good... battery is brand new,  ignition switch has been swapped... it's really making me mental

probably the one ecu is using a can signal to control the tach and the other is not  :)

the donor ecu was out of an 05.. mine is an 04, could that be the case for both the speedo and tach? they had that much of a change between 04 and 05? even though both ecu's had the same hardware and software numbers?.... when i connect to the ecu with vcds, i can see the rpms in measuring blocks... so maybe... just maybe it could be something as simple as that... now to get my hands on an 04 version of 560a and see if it holds water...

thanks guys!!

but.. why dont you just flash back the right file to your ecu? seems more logical than buying a new ecu to me ::)

if i'd had the correct file, that's what i would have done... i asked for about a week if anyone had a stock file, and got no response.. and that was the only file that i didnt seem to have....

absolutely... always double check your copy and make sure it's good before flashing!!

More, save the original file from the ECU for yourself, and upload it for others.

518ak is 04
518bc is 05 both files are 100% cross flashable and are on this forum 100x over

he's got an S4..
if the software and hardware numbers are the same, it should just work. You could save the new ecu file and flash it to the old one maybe? If the numbers match and the flash is good, you can rule out the ecu part. But to me it seems strange that the cluster would half stop working right after installing a wrong ecu, a little too much of a coincidence..

Is the soft coding on the new ecu the same as the old?
Im thinking auto vs manual etc.
