Title: Tiptronic to manual 2.5TDi B5 auto vs manual ECU
Post by: ventt on May 25, 2018, 01:52:09 AM
Hello

I'm in the middle of tiptronic to 01E swap and a little bit worried about the ECU coding/flash.

Based on the information I've found, it seems I have to flash the ECU from tiptronic to manual.

Is it true or the coding in ECU can do the same trick?

EDIT: whoops, I think it should be under the noob questions subforum. :P

It isn't that easy :(

My car had an 8D0 907 401 F ECU (AFB, tiptronic), didn't let me to recode it. For some reason after the transmission swap I got fault code:

00550 - Start of Injection Regulation
17-10 - Control Difference - Intermittent

and LOTS of smoke from the exhaust.

So I thought maybe I'll get an 6speed manual ECU (8D0 907 401 G) from a scrapyard. Now I get the same code 00550 but no TCU errors. Also the relay 214 went nuts (clicking) and my pump in the fuel tank started working non stop. Removed the relay and started the engine, tried to check timing with VCDS and engine started to retard and advance itself but never got to the point when it really showed the timing. After that I checked fault codes and now there was an new error:

01126 - Engine Speed Signal
16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications

Also the 00550 was there.

Any ideas? Is the ECU wiring different (tiptronic vs manual)? New ECU itself has gone bad? Bad engine speed sensor? Injection pump can't be bad because it has been rebuilt few months ago and operated great.

EDIT: the N75 also started clicking and got hot if I connected the manual ECU.
