Title: Revo's "theft" from APR - is it real?
Post by: blackfntruck on June 22, 2018, 05:17:33 AM
If you modify anything in the flash, don't be surprised if the car ends up in a limp-mode state or fails to start. Revo worked quite hard to protect the software they stole.

Well...that about does it...who did they steal software from?

Meh that just looks like some heavy anti-compete bs from APR. I know the story is that he stole files, but the only thing on record is legal wrangling over technicalities, not evidence that he copied APR files wholesale.

That case is based on technicalities. The original case illustrated the IP that was stolen. Even still, the UK company are a shower of arseholes. They've shifted focus to the Ford market. Fresh damage. They'll move onto BMW next probably once they've blown up all the Focuses lol

I'm skeptical of this to the extreme from what I saw. Any one of us could be accused of stealing IP by Audi (for "copyiing" their stock files) or by APR, for "stealing" their idea of modifying krkte when you change injectors.

In which APR claims Revo stole flashing software, not tunes.

When you get your car flashed by Revo and then the file has APR's signature in it, I'd say that's quite blatant.
As that's pretty much what happened back then.

Looking for that in the court docs... can't seem to find it... ref?

Ah here we go.

Four computer programs: DWIN, APRFC, ACS, "Flash"

ECU "changes" (interesting that it says "changes" and not "ECU flash image") - could it be that APR doesn't own the copyright to the latter? HMMM? :) :) :)

And the rest is "knowledge" and "methods", none of which are copyrightable, hence the non-compete violation allegation.
