I decided to create a topic for the issue after lot of reading here. Short story long. I have A8 D2 4.2 gasoline MY1999 with IMMO3 tacho which is going dead slowly. I bought a replacement tacho from S8 D2 MY2001, again with IMMO3, because it was cheaper than the original one (Yes, it is possible in Bulgaria). OLD tacho is VDO 029, and the new one is VDO 030 - FYI. I found the 24C17 eeprom next to the main CPU, thanks to the macxxx member -thank you mate. I tried to read it with CH341A cheap programmer. Dumped EEPROM from the new tacho is available at " https://mega.nz/#!ttplHQAQ " or https://mega.nz/#!ttplHQAQ (https://mega.nz/#!ttplHQAQ)Kilometers gauge shoud be showing around 158 000km if that can help you is some way. The key for the file should be: KbcxodTJKPXpBhcyKZtv82ENf8fKt7GwX9odKz1ojJc Can you please help me find the immo from the dumped new tacho below? Can I just swap both eeproms if they are the same 24C17 without any further complications? Tomorrow I will have a VAG K+CAN Commander 1.4 and I will try to pull the current IMMO3 pin from the ME7.1.1 ECU. Hopefully If I got the both PINs I will try yo to learn the new tacho to the car motor electronic ECU ME7.1.1 corrrect? Am I missing something? Regrads, Steve P.S. Your PIN works perfectly. Unfortunatelly I cannot read the ECU eeprom with my new VAG K+CAN Commander, and I am a little bit upset. Currently I am dissassembling my old tacho, hopefully someone will give the PIN from the dump today. :) I will bevery glad if that happens. I will upload the dump after several minuites.
