Title: Recommended Books on Tuning
Post by: Tony@NefMoto on March 13, 2011, 05:36:00 PM
I personally own and have read all of these books. I feel they give a good understanding of tuning and are not vehicle specific. All of the links below will take you to the Amazon.com product page for the book.

Designing and Tuning High-Performance Fuel Injection Systems (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1932494901/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1932494901)

Engine Management: Advanced Tuning (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1932494421/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1932494421)

Dyno Testing and Tuning (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1934709743/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1934709743)

Ignition Systems for Gasoline Engines: Bosch Technical Instruction (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0837610486/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0837610486)

I own this book and found it to be a nice primer.

How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0760315825/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0760315825)

Thanks guys. I had a loan of the Bosch fuel injection book which was reasonably interesting,

Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0837603005/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0837603005)

but I would be interested in books that cover forced induction engines.

This is turbo specific, but gives a lot of good information on how/why, gives some great examples how to calculate the math needed for tuning a turbo. I found it really helpful for reading compressor maps etc. It was printed in 2008, so I'm sure there's newer stuff out there, but great none the less. Have fun.

Turbo: Real-World High-Performance Turbocharger Systems (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1932494294/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwnefariousm-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1932494294)

P.s.- I also own all the books above, found them to all be great reference to fall back on.

Anyone recommend a more advanced book on the subject?

Very good stuff, I bought the Advanced Tuning: Engine Management, because I found it for sale on amazon. But what would be the best book to start with for someone new to ECU tuning specifically (not mechanics)?

I like the books of Greg Banish. He looks at it with an American eye and flavour, but internal combustion engines are all the same, his way of understanding efi will apply to all modern engines.

Thread bump and request for a suggestion for reading material that focuses more on VW and Motronic tuning.
I'm a beginner and will be diving into my '01 GTI soon and don't want to flood the forum with complete newb posts, taking away from aide that can be better put to use with real info requests.

Thanks in advance and i'm super stoked to get into this, purely for the challenge and fun aspect!

Four-Stroke Performance Tuning by A. Graham Bell

http://www.amazon.com/Four-Stroke-Performance-Tuning-Graham-Bell/dp/0857331256/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1418660045&sr=1-1&keywords=4+stroke+performance+tuning

Forced Induction Performance Tuning by A. Graham Bell

http://www.amazon.com/Induction-Performance-Practical-Supercharging-Turbocharging/dp/1859606911/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1418660273&sr=1-1&keywords=forced+induction+performance+tuning

Both are great books. Neither is ECU-focussed AT ALL. But they are both FULL of lots of useful info, along with a bit of experience-based advice.
