Title: ECU pin outs for 2001 Audi S4 6-speed
Post by: Tony@NefMoto on September 29, 2009, 12:27:53 PM
This is the ECU pin out for a 2001 Audi S4 6-speed that I compiled from a few different technical resources.

The text file contains the names and colours of all of the connections to the ecu.
The image is a layout for the ecu pin numbering.

UPDATE: Please download the PDF file in the following post.

Here is nice all in one PDF version that FallOut compiled from the information I posted in the previous post.

It is a little nicer to look at.

I have found some errors on the pinouts of this PDF (this past week). On two 2001.5 S4s I double-checked that pin 105 does not go to N249. That pin is empty -- with no wire behind it -- I found after taking apart the harness at the socket. I found a closed circuit with pin 1 of the N249 socket to a wire that on this PDF is listed as going to either N8 or N80 (I cannot remember which).

The other pin (pin 2) of the N249 socket goes to one of the corner pins to the sockets that plug to the fuses supply sockets, right behind the ECU. I believe those corner sockets on most of those pins are power from a particular fuse (not sure which) since they all connect to each other and to various solenoids, like the N249, including cam position sensors. I found that "left-most pins" (so pin 2 on 2-pin sockets, pin 3 on 3-pin sockets, etc) typically connect to power and they are green or green-yellow wires.

Double-check before using this information, but the pinout here most definitely has errors.

Do you have a .cvs i can import into s4wiki? :)

Tony,

I know you've built a benchtop harness for this thing. Do you have any part numbers for connectors.. or if you pulled them from a junkyard, could you share any numbers on them?

I got my connectors from cars that were being parted out online.

Here is my original document that the PDF was generated from.

It includes lots of info on ECU pins and connections between chips on the ECU circuit board.

I did all of the circuit board tracing back in 2006 when I was figuring out what I/O ports were connected to the injectors, spark plugs, and other sensors, etc.

Tony, I appreciate the knowledge you shared. Do you possibly have any pin readouts for the body harness plugs?

For that you would need to consult the wiring diagrams. They are posted in the forum I believe, but may only be for the A4.

Thanks Nyet, I don't mean to bump an old thread but I really needed this for my w/m install. Should be easier now figuring out which wire to splice into. Now to figure out how to tune for w/m should be fun  ;)

I'm with you on this!  There is a senior member here (I believe Julex) that is going to be using the Fuel Injector Duty Cycle to modulate his W/M injection.   Currently, I am using boost PSI Coolingmist Vari-Cool 2 has a boost supply hose that allows for direct routing of boost pressure into the variable controller.  I was usin MAP voltage, but didn't like the crazy and constant change.    I like Julex's idea and it has been confirmed that using the injector duty cycle will be suitable signal supply.  It's worth a try.

The ECU pin listing and pin diagram was exactly what I was looking for while trying to troubleshoot my N249. Thank you for that Tony, I am glad to run into this forum which I just joined.
Question: According to Bently's repair manual and according to your ECU pin list, ECU pin #105 is for N249 connection to the ECU, when I checked my ECU's harness there is no wire in pin #105, that explains why there was no continuity between the N249 plug wire #2 and the ECU pin #105. It looked to me like this is how it is from the factory. Did Audi forget a wire? Has any one run into a similar issue? My S4 is a 2001 6-speed USA market. Please help to clarify this confusion.

Can someone name the ECU pin numbers for the ignition signal of cyl 1-6? Can only find non specific 'power output stage', but not which is what.
They should be
Cyl 1-3
94
110
102
Cyl 4-6
95
11
103

But not sure which pin to what cylinder

Yes, I have the same issue, Pin 105 there is no wire, and N249 is no where to be found on the wiring diagram.

I have b5 audi 1.8t auto. completely converted into a b5 rs4. v6 manual swap.  I cant get power to ecu .   2000 s4 engine harness trying to mate with the 1.8t auto dash harness? >:(
