Title: Sensor Removal and DTC Cel Flags
Post by: RaraK on October 03, 2009, 09:49:33 AM
ok, so want to make a list of removal of 2nd 02's, and dtc that go along with it?, as well as EGT's(some people do this) and set readiness for the US OBD2 emmisions testing

ive done this but have issues with a CEL yet.

CDKAT set to 0
CDHSV set to 0
CDHSH set to 0
and in the x106e range there is a DTC cel table, flags for setting the CEL.  zeroed out the rear o2's so they can be unplugged

only CEL i get is for cat heating now? even though the readiness sets, what am i missing anyone know?

Glad to see you guys are finding the forums a useful place to ask questions. :D

I have completely removed the rear O2 sensors on my car.

There are settings in the ecu where you can specify that the car only has two oxygen sensors and not four. But if you do this you won't set the readiness flags, because the rear oxygen sensors never get tested.

So the best way to remove the rear oxygen sensors is to disable the diagnostic checks for the oxygen sensors, catalytic converter efficiency tests, and the oxygen sensor heaters. You also need to disable the DTC for the oxygen sensor heater amplifiers.

I will try to post the abbreviations for these things later.

well i have the rear o2's removed by switching them off(euro coding)

then the DTC's related to them unplugged

cat heating diagnosis before and after cats off

still get a cel for the cat heating! grrrrr

readiness is set btw

That list is uber handy robin!!!!!!!!

so my mistake was removing some DTC in the 0x106AD range, i removed for the rear 02's, those are just the MIL lights in that area i think.

the 0x1819(x) area is the actual parameters for the ecu to read to monitor something or not, whereas the 0x106AD area you can set 0 to just "ignore" cel?

Here is everything I use to remove my oxygen sensors and prevent any error codes while still passing readiness. These addresses are from an MBox.

Enable/Disable Diagnosis:
0x81819E, Post cat O2 heater diagnosis
0x81819F, Post cat O2 heater amplifier diagnosis
0x8181AA, Post cat O2 sensor diagnosis
0x8181A2, Catalytic converter efficiency diagnosis

Enable/Disable Fault Code:
0x8106F0, Error Class: Bank 1 post cat O2 sensor heater
0x8106F1, Error Class: Bank 2 post cat O2 sensor heater
0x8106F2, Error Class: Bank 1 post cat O2 sensor heater amplifier
0x8106F3, Error Class: Bank 2 post cat O2 sensor heater amplifier

seems as the diagnosis is the same in a few files ive seen, DTC's are in a different place though

im getting for my Hbox

0x106ec
0x106ed
0x106ee
0x106ef

respectively to your's.... and the gbox is different as well(what i go off of to find some stuff)

I desperatly need to pass smog my registration was due on march 10th and I am throwing codes for my o2's after gutting my precats and I am using the spacers and my EGTs are bad right now. I just ordered a KWP2000+ cable and it should be here next week I am going to pull down my bin file and post it up here and hopefully somebody can help me out. It seems from what ive read I just need to know the offset for the AA box Ecu and I can do this myself ? I have hex edited files before and what not but I just need to know the exact offsets to edit for the AA box. I will post up again once I get my cable and do some playing around and am more on par with everybody else.

Now that I see whats going on that is fantastic information Robin!!! Thanks!

Where did you get that list ? Or did you just put it together yourself ?

Title: Re: Sensor Removal and DTC Cel Flags
Post by: TWiST on April 12, 2010, 02:21:02 PM
So in the attached pic you can see the top is the AA ecu and the bottom is the M and in regards to the DTC section outlined it appears both ECUs have the same information.

Post by: TWiST on April 12, 2010, 03:17:35 PM
So as Tony suggested I checked the 8106F section on both the AA and the M and I dont think I can change anything there ? Am I reading the HEX locations wrong or what ? Check out my attached pic, thanks!

The last screenshot was totally wrong that I posted and I cant edit it. Anyways so I see the 03 sections and from someone extremely intelligent  ;) he told me to zero out the following on the AA box.

1819e
1819f
181a2
1077f
10780
10781
10782

I did and I am not throwing codes anymore for o2 which is fantastic but when I start the car and check readiness I get the attached screenshot. I am still getting my codes for my EGT sensors as they are both bad, but thats my next hurdle once I get thru this o2 madness, I am also unsure why I am getting a readiness issue for SAI

Ok so I have made some progress I think, changing the following values to disable EGT and so far so good.

CDATR     0x18196     Configuration byte diagnosis exhaust gas temperature regulation
CDATS     0x18197     Configuration byte diagnosis exhaust gas temperature sensor

CLAATR     0x106b0     Error class exhaust gas temperature regulation
CLAATR2     0x106b1     Error class exhaust gas temperature regulation bank 2

CLAATS     0x106b4     Error class exhaust gas temperature sensor
CLAATS2     0x106b5     Error class exhaust gas temperature sensor bank 2

The 181xx range was the same on my AA box ecu but the 106xx range was a tad different the dummy table starts (I believe) at 1073B on my revision AA box ecu.

If someone posts a link to the AA rom, which is not in my collection, I will find the M addresses noted earlier in the AA rom.  Or at least confirm them.

Is it worth noting these error classes for all the roms?

Have you tried running your scripts against a complete a2l file spen? See what mistakes it makes?

:) give me an asap file for an s4!

I've proven the accuracy against the publicly available g and m information.  I'm very certain of the d box translations as I've looked up those in winols.

actually I've just coded up the DTC enable table, the diagnois enable table is more or less static as it's the first function compiled at 0x800000 and 0x80001e

No asaps for the S4. I've got a few for MED9 if you've done any work there.

Ok,
I started messing around more with this and here is what I found so far....

Based off of what TWiST posted above, I found the first two locations. I opened my AA box ECU and then loaded an XDF file for an M box. The locations were slightly different than his...

Here is where I found the first 2 EGT values:

CDATR     0x18198     Configuration byte diagnosis exhaust gas temperature regulation
CDATS     0x18199     Configuration byte diagnosis exhaust gas temperature sensor

However I can't find anything else? Where else should I be looking???

Josh

Title: Re: Sensor Removal and DTC Cel Flags
Post by: TWiST on October 11, 2010, 10:26:47 AM
Why would you use an XDF for M box when you have an AA box ? The locations are clear and you dont even need winols for this job. If you have something that can handle the checksums then you can do this with any free hex editor. If this is really that confusing for you to do on your own I really suggest that you DO NOT DO IT. Because most likly you will end up doing something wrong and possibly a bricked ecu.

I think it's more of I know what I am looking for but I just can't seem to have it show up... like I said... i found the first two locations that you posted but I can't find the other 4. When I start looking for them I can't seem to find the right locations.

When i look up the addresses nothing shows up... im using an AA box and don't have an XDF for it.

Im using TunerPro... I played win WinOLS but couldn't find it in there either. Like i said I found the first 2 addresses but can't find the other 4.

Yet another anecdote about EGT's being "coded out" but still affecting the car *if the sensors are completely removed*

http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4/msgs/118536.phtml

Quote
So my EGTs should be deleted in my EPL tune but when logging I could see that that the ECU was still looking for the EGTs and causing throttle cut.

Well I plugged my EGTs into the wiring harness and zip tied the sensors to the side and found that the car will boost to 21 psi and runs perfectly without installing the sensors into the manifolds.

Just wanted to let others know about this trick if they have limited time on installing the driver side sensor in the manifold (It is a PITA) and a very easy way to test out stuff. Wish I knew of this trick a few weeks ago since I had been putting off skinning my knuckles for a while now.

No problem.
Keep in mind that all the maps I use are for 1.8T since that is what I tune everyday, and all maps may not have the same name on 2.7T or might need even a few more maps to be modified.

I want to find a solution to force readiness though.

Hi!

I have totally removed the rear O2 sensor because it cannot fit into the new 100cell cat. I've Me7.5 ecu and with ESKONF I've switched of the rear sensor(LSHHK=11). Everything seems ok but today I went 20-30km and I got check engine. I read the code and it is p0140. Why the error code comes later? Should I switch off other things?

Thank you

P0140
I turn it off by CL but I want to turn ut of by CD
