My question is, what does this value actually do and how would one replicate its changes without using the adaptation value? Looking to reduce/eliminate crackling in the exhaust on decel...

I don't have the answer off the top of my head, but if you want to do some digging in the FR the parameter is vstfva.

Yeah, I just found that in another post where Setzi mentioned it.

Looks like I need to start at page 1000 of the FR and reverse it from there...

It is a factor in the calculation of rkukg_w which is an additive in GK for rk_w (relative fuel mass).

You might be able to just modify KFVAKL (tmot, nmot) - factor decel. enleanment (short- and long-time part) in ESUK.
