THAT is pretty neat. Imo, I think it would be a real pain to keep toying with though. Probably be more of a novelty to show off than anything.

I'm pretty sure I read Tony was trying to make a DIY screen or something for data logging? I know its going to be a while, but he wrote something like 100$? I'm not sure, but it sounded pretty neat. It would be nice to get rid of the laptop for a compact touch screen for flashing/logging. There's enough awesome programers on here to write the program for the interface. It'll happen, just takes time.

2001.5 Audi S4 Stage 3

« Reply #3 on: January 16, 2012, 12:33:52 PM »

In the B5 Audi there is a serial communication connection between the radio and the instrument cluster. You can use the same commands the radio uses to display station information to display any info you want. If you install an RNS navigation unit it also uses additional commands to display images, etc on the cluster. People just need to data log the communication sent from the radio/RNS to the instrument cluster.

To implement using the stalk buttons to control your custom display, you need to cut the current connections, and then put your circuit in between. Your circuit would receive the stalk inputs, and then decide what to send through to the instrument cluster.

To read the OBD info, etc to display you would need a circuit capable of OBD communication, etc.

So basically you need a micro controller with at least two serial ports at a minimum. One serial port for OBD, and one serial port for the instrument cluster. You can likely do this with a simple AVR micro controller.

I have put developing a stand alone hand held NefMoto flashing and data logging unit on hold. There is just too much left to do in the NefMoto desktop software.

I take offense to the term vaporware and I stopping sharing information on it, due to this kind of negative reaction.

Get over yourself.

Whats the point in just clamming up if you don't have the time to do it?

Release what you have and let others do the work that you gave up on.

Let me get this straight.

You're developing something.

You announce it.

You give up on it.

People say your product is vaporware.

Out of "revenge" you ... stop talking about the project you aren't working on, just because somebody was negative?

You know, disregarding the fact that the statement that got you all mad in the first place is now true, *because of your own actions*?

Life lesson: "I'm taking my ball and going home" isn't always a winning move.

You know, I viewed you as an intelligent person, but something is off here. I never said ANYTHING about giving up. Where did I say that? What I have done is stop making public updates.... There is a difference. I am guessing you can understand that.

Please stop jumping to conclusions.

I'm glad to hear you are still working on it. I wish you the best of luck, because it really is an awesome project.

The whole "people said mean things to me so I went neener neener" thing just rubbed me the wrong way.
