At this point I think you need a separate known good ecu to verify your bench cable and bootmode technique are correct.

Ok i got it to connect finally.
Had to swap out my psu.

So my bench harness works properly.
And i am able to access the spare ecu.

However the spare is from a fwd tt and my car is a quattro 225 tt.

Can i flash the spare with my quattro map and have it work? Both 2001 ecus

The quattro ecu is still messed up.
Cannot get it into boot mode no matter what.
And nef wont connect to it.  Nef can connect to it on the car oddly.
But it cant do anything. Not even ecu info.
The ecu runs the car.  But i need an ecu that i can reflash.

What is your pinout for boot mode?
Yes you can crosflash all TT ecus after 2001 year

Mines a 2001 narrowband. And the ecu is a 2001 wodeband. 
Im wondering if the flash nef flashes has the dats that changes the wb nb info around?

For boot mode i ground pin 24
It works with the spare ecu.
This one is just so screwy it doesnt want to do it

Maybe I should just convert to wideband and use the working ECU.  Ill need it in the future anyways.  And it's safer for a noob like me to tune

theres a 50% off sale at the local parts yard.
can anyone recommend which cars have an ecu that I can cross flash with my car?

my car.  2001 amu narrowband 225 1.8t. k04 6spd manual.
i know it has to be narrowband, and me7.5.  but how about auto/manual, or vvt, or egt stuff?
I wonder what stuff will be converted to work properly when I just put my bin on it.

At the very least you need a wideband ECU, lambda and wiring loom.

On these cars you can pretty much crossflash anything, code in or out the bits you do or don't need. (ESKONF)

You can softcode auto/manual using vcds, but i believe every 1.8T TT came with a manual box.

Well the tt came with auto, 5spd man, 6sod man, and even dsg paddle shift.
Obviously you can't crossflash everything or I wouldn't need a narrowband ECU to match my car.
I'm looking for a replacement ECU now, but I need something that I can flash and it'll work.  Marching tt ECU are too expensive
I'm looking at Mk4 vw ECU narrowband .
But which engine code or car/year?
I guess I need a new post for that

Update:. Just to close out this thread and let anyone who cares know.
The ECU was never salvagable.
It can't boot mode no matter what method.

I got a cheap replacement and called it a day
