Hey Guys, I am currently trying to get a 4' intake runnin' on the m62b44tu. It runs pretty good, after letting it adapt about 5-10km. It takes some time until it runs good, idle is fine from the first sec. The first runs runnin to lean, and then it just adapts more to rich and then runs great. But then, it will throw codes, "LR-adaptions to rich, control limit reached, after about 50km. I already made changes in the map, but I wasn't able yet to try it out, because after it throw the code yesterday. I also got the Engine failsafe programm under full throttle yesterday. Thats the second time now, and after that, the MAF Sensor is broken. Whats the problem with the MAF sensor? Why does it die ?
I could try out with another sensor I got here, but it is my last one and I don't want to kill it another time. Should I try an other sensor, for example the RS4 one with 90mm (reads up to1700-1800kg/h) ? Original is 82mm and measures up to 1200kg/h.
So my question would be, If anyone could help me set up this RS4 MAF Sensor to my M62? The plug is the same, and the DME used in the RS4 was ME7.2 too. Do I just need to correct the MLHFM map for the RS4 sensor? MLMAX for sure needs to be adapted.
What I was trying with the original MAF sensor is....I logged the Airmass with the original Intake, got a peak from about 1020kg/h (original is 880kg, but I already got much Hardware changed)  Then I logged with the 4' Intake and got a peak from 850kg/h. So what I did is corrected the Airmass on MLHFM and MLMAX to get my 1020Kg/h peak at the voltage where it is reading just the 850kg/h. Am I thinking right? Before I try this, I need to get an spare MAF sensor to kill. Cheesy But where is the problem, that it gets killed with the original MAF settings?

Why are you fitting the 4" intake? Is it boosted? In which case you are going to need to do a lot more work.
Is it stock? In this case it is an exercise in futility, as you will not really gain anything by doing this that you wouldn't gain by just doing a proper ECU map (putting the MAF into a larger tube to make engine run lean with more advanced timing is a really shitty way of doing things).

And no, you're not going to get more air into the engine because the intake is not the problem.

Hey, thanks for your reply.
No, I am not runnin stock. But I am not boosted. I did cams, Manifold, Throttlebody, Alpina Exhaust with M5 headers and the map is not Stock. Stock it has 286hp, my setup makes 342 Peak at the moment. Pretty good gain for NA right? I measured the airflow Stock, and now, my peak airmass jumped to 1020kg, instead of 880kg. You really feel the difference between both intakes, without its like sucking trough a straw.

Ok... small Intake = 5,8 sec from 0-100kmh and big Intake is 5,4 sec...without changing maf data in the map. I am just asking if anyone got the same problem with broken MAF's or if it is just coincidence.
Anyways I am not the only one who has fitted the big intake on the m62b44tu..because u gain a bit response and about 5-7hp max with this mod. It is just restricted through the orignal intake because of the way how it drives, it wasn't meant to be a race car..so thats what they did. Ever wondered, why the M60B40 with 4liter engine, M62B44 with 4,4 liters engine and the M62B44tu with 4,4 Engine and Vanos got all 286 ps?
You sound a bit like all my friends who said I shouldn't do NA tuning on my M62 because it won't get me any gains... now I am near 60PS gain so it looks like I did pretty good.
Currently I am building a M62B50 with M5 internals, at the latest when it is finished I really could have an advantage from the intake.
So if I get help or not, I will get this done.

That's because with the big intake you are running leaner and have more advanced timing, because the MAF reads lower and the calculated load is lower. I told you that in the first post.
Exactly same effect can be done by mapping the engine properly. 3.5" flows 1k hp. Your throttle body or anything else isn't any bigger. All "gains" in case of the intake is because you are lying to the ECU about the amount of air that goes into the engine.
You'd also get the same exact effect as now by simply fitting a resistor divider on the MAF signal that does a 0.7x factor on it or multiplying the MAF table in the ECU by 0.7x. All with the same original intake.

But hey, you keep your feels. I'll keep doing things using science. Worked much better for me in life.
