Please help. I overwrote the EEPROM with a generic Immo off one and can't get it to start. Immo off preferred but I can do that if needed. The bigger picture is that I bought a tuned F box and am trying to install it in another A4Q that originally had an AF box. Any advice on whether this is ever going to work is greatly appreciated. I can't seem to find any information about interchangeability. I have read that the code is different. Thanks.

AF is not compatible with F and vice versa.

I understand that the ECUs have significant internal differences, but can the F ECU (from a 2002 A4) run a 2003 A4 that originally had the AF ECU? They are both AMB engines but I know that 2002 had the return-less fuel system.

I only overwrote the EEPROM. The flash is untouched. Are you saying that an (APR) tuned ECU has something proprietary or coded in the EEPROM that I won't be able to restore? I am still able to write the EEPROM, I just don't have a dump of the original (tuned) contents.

Yes. If it's an APR flash and you overwrote the eeprom, you've likely ruined the tune.
No, you cannot use an 518F ecu in a 518AF car. There will be errors.

One new piece of info.. I was told by an APR dealer that they do all of their flashing through the OBD2 port with the ECU in the vehicle. To my knowledge it is not possible to write the entire EEPROM without opening the ECU. If that is true, the APR tune may be able to work with a stock EEPROM as long as I use their tool to pair it to the vehicle. I would like to give it a try to get this fixed without spending additional money on the wrong ECU. In need to sell the tuned ECU that I currently have to get my money back and get a proper tune for my vehicle's ECU.
So I will go back to the original post, looking for the 518F EEPROM dump. I did find 518F flash dumps here so I know there are users here with that ECU.

You are hoping against hope huh. The 518AF eeprom is compatible with the 518F, so you are good there.
Also, it is 100 percent possible to write the eeprom over OBD. Just not with the tools easily available here.

I tried the virgin EEPROM file and that seems to be better. At least now the ECU is not locking up and I was able to complete coding. However I cannot login to complete adaptation. The virgin file has FF FF in the PIN fields but I can't login with 65535 or complete adaptation without login. Any ideas?

Sorry I had the original post backwards. What I am looking for is the 518AF EPROM.

We can close on this post now. I believe that I have gotten past immobilizer issues now and that the car is stalling due to some wiring differences between the 518F and 518AF. Thanks to those who replied.
