I have a 2004 Jetta with a 2.0L stock engine. The engine was originally the BBW engine code with variable valve timing, the cylinder head lost oil pressure and was destroyed. I wasn't able to easily find another BBW cylinder head, so I swapped to a BEV cylinder head, ECU and engine compartment wiring. I did an immobilizer delete to make things easier, I didn't use a pre-made file for it, I used a Immobilizer off calculator and reprogrammed the chip. The car will start and run, but the ECU will not boot, the check engine light wont turn on and the engine wont run for about 30 seconds after the key is turned on. I tested for power at pins 3, 62, 21, and ground at pins 1 and 2. Everything has power except pin 21, it has around .8V on it, but with power jumped  to it nothing changes. From the wiring diagrams pin 21 appears to be the ground side control of the ECU power relay. Scanning the system for trouble codes shows an ECU power relay fault, but the power relay turns on as soon as the key is turned and appears to function normally. I have spent hours going over the wiring diagrams and have not found any problems, I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar issue or if something in my immobilizer delete file has caused this issue. BBw is me7.1.1 the ecu pin out is slightly different then me7.1/.5. What ecu are you using? I've done the same swap

The original was a ME7.1.1, but now has been swapped to a ME7.5 along with the engine compartment wiring harness. I have the original Immobilizer on and new Immobilizer off files in .BIN format. Let me know if you need any more info, and thanks for the help so far.

I am removing the chip from the board, and using a TOP TOP3000 universal programmer along with Top's software. Its possible I selected the wrong chip when I read the file, I will pull the computer again and reread the chip if you think that's the issue. Thanks for your reply

Why not just read normally, edit and write in bootmode.  Would take minutes.

I didn't know you could read the EEPROM threw the OBDII port, what equipment do I need and what software should I use ?

Your gonna want what's called a "galletto 1260" cable along with software called me7_95040.exe (link below), cable goes for around $20 or less, I also added a link to one on ebay to give you an idea of which one it is. Actually you cant write the 95040 threw the OBDII port BUT you can do it in what's called "boot mode", google it. it involves grounding out a pin inside the ecu, stupid easy compared to pulling the whole chip which I did myself before I knew any better. hope this helps.

True, but not required.  ME7_95040 is Argdub's tool, and you can read AND write using it using a dumb KKL cable (cheap vag-com cable).  No other cables are needed.

You read the file through the OBD port using the tool, it's really easy.  Once it's read, edit it and save it.

Actually you cant write the 95040 threw the OBDII port BUT you can do it in what's called "boot mode", google it. it involves grounding out a pin inside the ecu.
You are writing the ECU through the OBD port, technically.  Using a bootmode harness, you will place the ECU into bootmode by either grounding out a pin or using a resistor, depending on the type of ECU.  Once it's in bootmode, you write your edited file back to the ECU using Argdub's tool (the same tool you used to read it) and using the same dumb KKL cable.
