I have a narrow band Passat, and I've wanted to get a Wideband car for a while now, but they just aren't available -- both Passats and A4s. I've made logs with the passat, but they're different from the logs in the community thread -- there isn't AFR. Wiki also says not to skimp on the O2 sensor.

So question is, can I tune a narrow band ecu without additional hardware?

While I'm not a fan of their tuning, Unitronic makes a nice harness to convert to wideband: https://www.getunitronic.com/news/unitronic-wideband-ecu-conversion-harness/

Buy a wideband O2 sensor and a wideband ECU as well and you are good to go. It is extra cost, but totally worth it. My buddy did the conversion on his A4 and it works beautifully...

My favorite part of the unitronic one is the resistor for the vvt.
If only there was a way to get rid of that, you would think a
big company like unitronic would have figured it out.

To the op, you said narrow band like aeb? Is it drive by wire and
narrow band? Cause if its aeb none of this works.

Turning off circuit diagnosis for vvt is fairly basic shit.

OP: buy Ian's or run 2 wires and repin the plug.

Its a plug and play hardware solution. I'm sure they know how to do simple deletes. Also, that came out before many people even knew about this forum.

If I had know that I wouldn't have suggested the Uni one... Makes me feel dirty recommending anything they offer.  Grin
