Hi am I correct in thinking that my car has an ME9 ECU and therefore cannot be reflashed with Nefmoto which has been designed for the ME7 ECU? Thanks.

Correct. NefMoto will not flash med9. Mpps, cmd or kessv2 will flash med9

Many thanks, are there any open source solutions available for ME9?

Just nitpicking but "open source" and "free" software are not the same thing.

There are no opensource solutions for anything. A lot of proprietary stuff and abandonware (like nef)
