Hi all,

What is use of shunt in the ECU or electrical harness?

Is your question relating to what a shunt is (i.e. a device which allows electric current to pass around another point in the circuit to bypass a defective device, for circuit protection for example) or is it relating to use of shunts in the ECU or wiring harness of a vehicle and why? A shunt resistor might be used in place of a sensor to prevent the ECU reporting an error or to assist in diagnosing a faulty sensor [see module GGTFA 15.50 Diagnosis; Intake Air Temperature Sensor in the ME 7.3.1H Alfa 2.0l BTS 9/633.3;16 Function- and Data Sheet for a practical example of using a shunt resistor in the input circuitry.]

...or as a way to measure current (By measuring voltage drop over a resistor with known resistance)
