I've got a 2006 Jetta 2.5 auto with me7.1.1 07k906032AN

Ktag 7.020 and KSuite 2.25, it insists it's ME7.5 HW1 ST10 but it's ME7.1.1 HW1. I can run a backup and pull an accurate flash file but the eeprom comes out blank every time.

Trying to remove immo or even extract skc so I can clone my existing ECU (eventually going to remove SAI, EVAP but I don't want to do it with my working ECU and chance bricking).

Checking to see if there's a better option in KSuite or if I'd have to go with a different cable, or just desolder the eeprom. Had no problem pulling the eeprom using KKL and CAN Commander with my stock ECU but obviously can't with the replacement.

I just did that recently with a clone Galletto 1260. I made an mk4 Golf swap with this engine and this ecu.
Normal operation like ME7.5. Opened, put it on bootmode, read the 95160 eeprom, write it back with immo off.
Just a normal clone Galletto.

Thanks for the lead, I'll look into it further. That's a good start.

Sorry, replied to the wrong quote. Meant that for the guy up above you (Nameless)

Not looking for someone to fix my problem for me, no. Ive got VCDS Hex V2 legit I've used for basic fixes on VWs for a few years. The ECU project is over my head so I'm learning as I go from what I've read here, some of it I caught on alright but someone of it confusing since it's vehicle/ECU specific and I don't read a lot of 2.5 stuff here or mhh.

Bought a KKL cable, that didn't work. Bought a K+Can cable, that worked but no boot mode. Got the Ktag cause that seemed to have the best feedback, works to get it in  boot mode but the software is either confused or I am.

I'm just trying to figure out what the right hardware, that's all. I didn't think clone hardware was a problem here but I'll get legit hardware if that's what I need to do the job that's fine.

Interesting, never been able to get eeprom with my galletto clone. Option is greyed out.

Read somewhere this version of the ME7.1.1 has a jumper on the back, lift it and KSuite will pull the eeprom like normal. I'll give that a try and report back.

Both my 07K906032AN are like that (they're ME7.1.1 HWv1), I also have a 07K906032S that's ME7.1.1 HWv3 and it actually reads correctly. So something definitely funky on the HWv1 board .

Ktag has a bug with the protocol and has not been fixed to this day with the legit versions. Best off using something else like argdubs tool
