Motronic ECU Hardware
« on: December 13, 2009, 08:31:40 PM »
Has anyone looked into what the hardware compatibility is between differnt revisions of ME7 ECUs? The reason I ask is I wanted to pick up a spare ECU to use as a backup when I start tuning and S4 ECUs aren't the most common thing around here. I know that you can change the OS on different year B5 S4 ECUs, but I was curious if the same can be done for A4 or other Audi ECUs since they are a lot more common and easily found. If anyone has any input it'd be great.

I believe all of the ECUs from the 2.7T engine are interchangeable.
I have used A6 ecus in my S4 without problem.
I know the B5 A4 1.8T has a different ECU than the B5 S4.

Yes, they are interchangeable. I run both A6 and S4 ECUs, all flashed with M box software in my A6.

is it also possible on ME7.5 1,8T ECU's?

There are hardware compatible ME7.5's which you can interchange if they are flashed
with a correct image.
But definitely there exist different hardware versions of ME7.5 which can be used only in
specific cars - most obviously for cars with different engine hardware features like
VVT, EPC, EGT-Sensor.
The part numbers in ETKA probably give hint which ECU-hardware models are matching.
