Author Topic: What to jump or short to ground to boot mode on this ecu?  (Read 12712 times)

This is the inside of my 551 AA ecu. It looks different than the wiki ecu and which pins to short or jump to enter into boot mode. Specifically, I only counted 22 pins on the on chip. I am confused. Can anyone tell me how to get this ecu into boot mode?

Specifically, I only counted 22 pins on the on chip.

I see 44. Start at one on the upper left.

Go down the left side. The bottom one on the the left is 22.

Then proceed counterclockwise (this is standard in ALL PSOP packages).

Pin 23 is the pin on the bottom right. The one above that is pin 24.

Looks like an AR/A6 AA, which means BEL 7.1.1 (iirc)

correct. It's a 7.1.1 4z7 907 551 aa from an 04 a6 sline.

I believe 7.1.1 can not be put in to boot mode just by shorting pin 24 to ground.

Suggestions then? It won't take a flash in nefmoto. It stops every time at about 14% read or write. i was told to try boot mode first and then retry nefmoto flash.

Hey mate, at least with the RS6 ECU (7.1.1) can be put into boot mode just by grounding pin 24, i did need to use a 5k resistor.  Also I really had to watch my voltage 13v and above does not work for me,  11.7v worked perfect.

Sorry, meant no disrespect. Was simply asking if you had any suggestions. I am brand new to this and have absolutely no way of knowing which direction to go. Search google probably would do much for me at this point because I don't understand much of what I am reading. Please and thank you.

Look at the 7.1.1 40MHz section for which pin and also for the Bench harness you will have to setup, do you have a bench harness yet?

Also as per my previous post it works 100% for a voltage around 11.7v but anything over 13v it would not work.

It's "on the bench" apart right now, but no I don't have all the bench components set up yet. I was unsure if I should ask but I was going to assume, after I reviewed the link you provided, that I had the 40 mHZ ecu. The pins seem to match closely to that picture.

Ok, I've tried to visually verify that this is my ecu. All the pins and chips seem to be in the exact same configuration as the picture attached. To get into boot mode I need to make sure I have the voltage stated above, and short the pin in the picture to a ground for approximately 2-3 seconds when the ignition is switched on?
