I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8T with an 01m auto trans. Until recently, I was unaware of the ability to tune our own files and was not interested in doing so. I stumbled onto this site and have been reading what I can. This is my first post so please bear with me. I have a USB KKL Vag Com cable and a laptop which I have been using for general diagnostics. It is older though, running Windows 2000. I initially downloaded the China Clone Revo Flash 3 files. However none of them match my ecu, and I don't want to brick it right from the start. Can someone help me out with a simple step by step on how to load a bin file, what program I should use (WinOls etc.) and maybe a reliable tune file for this ecu to get started with? Any help is appreciated. Like I said before, sorry for the newb post.

...However none of them match my ecu, and I don't want to brick it right from the start...

purchase a spare ecu
build a bench setup (inexpensive and easy to do)
learn and understand using the various software available on this site (the stickies are all you need)

At some point, you will likely encounter a bad flash that will require bootmode recovery. It's better to learn learn the process and its foibles on a spare ECU.

Thanks for all of the help. Both in the post and through PM. I just downloaded NefMoto Flasher and will be building a Bench Harness in the next week or so in my spare time. Then to track down a spare ecu. Also, I plan on doing an Auto to Manual swap. If I get an Auto ecu as a spare, can I flash it later with Manual code, or do I need to buy another ecu after the swap?
