I started messing around with an s4 on the highway and when he would get on it it would backfire (after fire) loud between shifts. Almost like a gunshot. Just curious what would be needed to achieve this effect on stock s4 with open exhaust. NLS doesn't do much. Any way to achieve this under full throttle between shifts?

If your NLS is programmed properly then you should have this effect.

You need unburned fuel in a hot exhaust  ,now there are lots of ways to achieve that ,but
really just don`t do it  Shocked

Need to run rich and your exhaust needs to be hot.

No , generally "running rich" will not do it , there are ways just think about it.

You can mess with timing @ high rpm (or the RPMS that you shift) ,fueling or like Mazer.Gti said with an NLS.

But I don`t recommend any, even with NLS (which is useful) ,firing flames for no reason won`t get you faster

Yes, I understand there are many variables. But running rich even on wot cause unburnt fuel and then kaboom if the exhaust is hot enough.

PS. I've missed out the part where OP stated about the nls. My bad.
