just trying to figure put if the ecu connections are physically the same. anyone?

From my little experience of this old ECUs, some turbo M382s, almost 99% of turbo M383s and almost 99% of turbo M592s ECUs shares same hardware and have almost 99% same wiring compatibility. Most of changes are software related. I do not have enough experience with NA ECUs but seems to me that exist some hardware and software differences.

Here in USA we don't have agu (transverse) DBC 1.8ts but I did use a agu file on a are ecu after I immo offed it to work on a friends aeb mk1 swap. We used transverse manifold and turbo/ downpipe. Made a few minor calibration changes for his current setup
And it works perfect. You'll need to use the right EEPROM file for the agu flash EPROM
