So very shocked and saddened about the passing of Mike "Daz" Dillenger. What an incredible person, unselfish to a fault. Tremendous loss for VW/Audi tuning community. Cry

So among the my first conversations with Daz many years ago was a PM where he explained some kinks in a PES tune he did for a C5 S6. I was inquiring about a project seed, a plan to rebuild and modify a second PES Stage 2 setup for the BHF 4.2L.

"Keith, he also has a PES kit. As for the kinks, there are ASM hacks required to get rlsol_w over 100, fkkvs hacks, and a ton of fueling changes. Massive timing scaling, etc. It is a very difficult process. The 2007 is an ST processor. That's going to be next to impossible."

Later he signed on to do the tune on the PES-based MP112 powered setup for my BHF S4 V8. We were discussing using 550cc injectors at 80% duty cycle and we were trading emails and messages for a while, working to assemble the bits and kit I needed to get installation started. And today in retrospect, after spending a day in my workshop swapping rotor packs honoring him in my own way by again setting about the tasks he and I plotted to move forward, I remembered this early message.

What does he mean about the ST processor being an impossibility? He eventually changed his tune (pardon the pun) and related he was going to have to literally build the definitions by hand for the logger, a process he loosely described as akin to sucking balls.

So what's the ST hangup? Why is BHF 2007 edition more of a PITA to remap than the earlier 4.2L versions? It's been a while since I have posted here, but I thought in Daz's memory, I might try to make a more regular appearances and actually try to engineer some of this solution myself.

RIP Daz. You were the walrus. Koo-koo-ka-choo.

ST10 cpu means that usual ways of logging/disassembly (largely relying on me7info) do not work with it. Meaning most of the job either has to be done by hand or a new tool has to be written. It's not impossible, it just takes a lot of time. I played a little with Porsche 997 ME7.8, which is based on ST10 as well - and its internal "routine" is largely the same as C167 based ME7s. All the offsets are way off, memory structure is different, etc. But it's manageable.

stripped, primed, and ready for color coat

I am just returning to this after taking another few months off with family distractions. Do you still think you can do this? I am about to ramp up again and need a game plan for injectors and tune to go with MP112 volume on the 4.2. I am near 100% I can get larger blower length to fit, but I may need a custom TB plenum to do it, so I have a little time to start to work on tuning tools. I'll see if I can update my profile to email me when a reply is posted. I had no idea you had responded to my post from April...

Of course I can.
Not going to be cheap, but I can...

And Daz was right, it is a PITA to do these.

I often wonder how a tuner quotes a job like this with a decent amount of unknowns.

I quote a big enough number that it covers most unforeseen circumstances.
That also shows whether someone is serious about it or not.
