Yes you can. You just need some mods to ESKONF and immo off. There is a detailed topic on the forum about all the changes required.

RS4 file into M-box is possible (for S4 application), yes, and that is what's documented. What OP was asking about (I think?) - using an M-box for the RS4. And that is a "no-no", since RS4 has separate camshaft adjustment circuits. Not sure that the M-box has hardware for it. But judging by the Mocke's reply, it doesn't.

Oh the other way around. Yes it's possible, the same way actually. The camshaft control is no problem, even if the ECU does not have it in the hardware, you can do what the S4 does and merge the two wires.

Well, yea, a more fitting reply would have been: "not without additional wiring".

Plug and play, the ECU boards are identical. 551K ecu is nothing special, most 29F800 ECU's with the correct bootrom will work.

My understandig was that he wanted to use 551M eeprom and flash in 551K file without actually changing the eeprom to 551k itself. Hence answer NO. Sorry for misunderstanding.

It will work with the 551M eeprom, the layout is identical.

You mean that you dont need to reflash eeprom at all? Just keep 551M eeprom and boot 551k flash? Hm, itc - i did know that.

All ME7.1 eeprom layouts are the same. The only concern is immo.
