I'm looking to make a full backup of an ecu I'm working with. I've already backed up the flash, just need to backup the immo. I'm assuming this ecu uses a similar architecture to the ME7.5 variety (soic8). The car is a 2001 Porsche 996TT. De soldering isn't an issue, just looking for solid info on which chip. Any info appreciated!

If it's similar to 997TTmk1, then it'll be a SOIC8 on the underside of the board. Right in the middle. Just find something that is a eeprom. Use http://alldatasheet.com/ to check.
Beware, though, that if it's based on ST10 processor, you also have to back up contents of the CPU.

Should be the chip closest to the flash chip. If it's like the Boxster it'll be a 95p08 (marked 5P08 on the chip).

I do see that (although the number is barely readable through the lacquer). I also read that this should be a 95p08 / 5p08 / 5p08c3. I'm fairly sure I have the correct chip now. Can anyone verify 100% the chip type? I will be reading this in a GQ4X

EDIT I have a boxster ecu here and the board layout is not the same as the one I'm working with. The Boxter ecu is also ME7.2 so that may be why (not sure if they had ME7.8's for the Boxster) It does have an soic8 clearly labeled 5P08C3 so that's correct on that ecu.

I ended up reading it with an soic clip. They don't always work on the board, but I guess I got lucky, because the read looks good when comparing it to the boxster one I desoldered and read in a programmer. The Boxster ecu is here to try and disable the immo, so if anyone has any information on that I'm all ears. That system has a seperate box under the seat that i believe simply interrupts the starter, and ign circuit, rather than internally of the DME like ME7.5. Still gathering info on this. Thanks for all the helpful responses, gents.
