Hey guys so i recently reflashed a used ecu i had laying around. The issue is am having is that I cannot Communicate with the ecu unless I am in boot mode.Once out of bootmode the ecu does not respond and i cant talk to it even when using vcds lite.I know the checksums are correct. So I dont think its bricked.Anyone ever run into anything like this???I am attaching the file that is flashed to the ecu.

If the ecu is from 2002 or older it won't work. Me7.5 had hardware changes in the longitude platforms after 2002 and the transvirse never got the hardware update

That should work then. The flash could be corrupt. I have bricked my ecu at least 10 times this week by writing custom code to the ecu, despite corrected checksums. Can you flash another (tested) AK file to it?
If that doesnt work, there may be a hardware issue.

I will try to do that.I noticed the ecu is missing the ground pad from the pcb for the eeprom 29F800BB.Looks to be lifted or missing.Could this be related to my issue??I thought the ground pads was just that and not needed for anything else.

The 2002 AUDI A4 has a "518 F" ECU
and the 2004 AUDI has a "518 AK" ECU

These ECU's have different bootroms and are not cross flashable.

The 518 F is a black sheep ECU and can only be used as a 518 F

The others from 2003-2005 are all cross flashable/Interchangable.

Not true!
I have at least 3 other passat/A4 ecu's here that will not crossflash with the AK flash (=bootrom 06.02). Remember the platform changed from 4B0 to 8E0. But with same ecu number you must be good anyway.

I was referring to the 2003-2005 B6 A4 1.8T ECU's

518 F = 2002

518 AF = 2003
518 AK = 2004
518 BC = 2005

Always good to clarify before someone with a 4B0 ecu flashes the wrong version because of your statement  Grin

518F is not cross flashable.However

AF,AK and BC can all be crossflashed.I dont think this is my issue here.As the ecu I am trying to flash is a AK and im flashing a AK bin to it.The pad circled in red looks like someone lifted it from the board.Either tried soldering to it and over heated it or did it on purpose. However this should not affect functionality as it is merely a ground pad for boot mode.

I tried flashing back the original bin to the ecu.Still same thing. Also tried 2 other tested bins.Same thing no change.Weird because bootmode works no problem.Anyone else care to take a stab at it????tried using vcds original cable.Cannot connect using vcds either.I will say this when the ecu was in the car the fans would cycle on and off and then eventually stayed on.I am wondering if this ecu is bricked??But how can this be??I reflashed it with other files and still no hope.I guess Ill wait for the other ecu to arrive to check it out and see what happens.

I was referring to the 2003-2005 B6 A4 1.8T ECU's

518 F = 2002

518 AF = 2003
518 AK = 2004
518 BC = 2005

Can you read the flash in bootmode?
Is it identical?
I think this ecu was mistreated at some point, and could be the 29f800 is defective...

Flash could only be read in bootmode. However I cant communicate with the ecu at all when using vcds.

It is probable a hardware issue on the Ecu, ie your lifter pad or some other damage.

But just for curiosity sake..

Can you flash a "F" bin and see what happens?

I'm wondering if a "F" board was put in a "AK" case at some point.

Just a thought.
